Penguins captain Sidney Crosby added another NHL milestone on Saturday afternoon when he notched his 600th career assist during the second period of Pittsburgh’s 5-0 win against the New York Islanders.
Crosby’s assist came when he set up Patric Hornqvist’s power-play goal.
The Penguins and NHL honored Crosby’s accomplishment prior to Sunday’s ‘Fan Appreciation Night’ game against the Philadelphia Flyers. General manager Jim Rutherford presented Crosby with an NHL Milestone Award commemorating the achievement.
Crosby became both the youngest and fastest active player to reach 600 assists.
The NHL’s third-leading scorer with 81 points (32G-49A), Crosby earlier this season became the fastest active player to reach 900 points on Feb. 6 in Florida.
