CONSOL Energy Center has been named the “Best NHL Arena” in the sixth annual Sports Business Journal readers’ survey on the state of the sports industry.

The new home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, which opened for the start of the 2010-11 season, outranked Madison Square Garden in New York, the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the Xcel Energy Center in Minnesota and the Prudential Center in New Jersey in the survey conducted by the leading sports trade publication in the country.
The Best NFL Stadium was Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, the Best NBA Arena was Staples Center in Los Angeles, and the Best MLB Ballpark was Yankee Stadium in New York.
“We are honored that the Sports Business Journal and its readers think so highly of CONSOL Energy Center,” said David Morehouse, CEO and President of the Penguins. “It’s been an exciting first few months – not only because of the great hockey, but also because of all the other events we’ve been able to host – and now we look forward to maintaining that standard and doing even better to make this the premier sports and entertainment destination in the Pittsburgh region.”
The Penguins also finished high in two other categories – 2nd in the NHL in Most Innovative Business Practices (behind only Chicago) and 3rd in the NHL in Most Effective Team Owner (behind only Detroit and Chicago).
The surveys were conducted for the Sports Business Journal by Turnkey Sports & Entertainment.
