The defensive pairing of Justin Schultz and Ian Cole continued to shine on Saturday night in the Pens' 5-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at PPG Paints Arena.

Six minutes into the third period, Cole set up Schultz for a one-timer at the top of the left circle, which found its way under the right arm of Detroit netminder Jared Coreau to tie the game at 3-3.
The three-point night (1G-2A) gives the duo nine points (3G-6A) in the last three games.
"It's great," Cole said of his and Schultz's matching three-game point streaks. "We think we've been playing well all year, but it's nice to see that translate to the scoresheet. That's always a good thing. I don't think we're trying too hard. I don't think we're being reckless to create offense; I think we're doing it smart. We're just trying to get pucks down to our forwards and let them create down there and that's what they're really good at."
For Cole, it was his second assist on the night, making it the first time in his NHL career that he posted multiple points in back-to-back games. He notched both a goal and an assist in Thursday's 6-2 win against Dallas.
"It's going well," Cole said. "'Schultzy' is awesome, he's a great hockey player that certainly helps me a lot. He creates well, he communicates well. We're just trying to play solid defense and we're jumping out and playing offensively. That's been going well."
Schultz's goal is his second in three games, his first coming in the third period against the Islanders on Wednesday.
"We're just picking our spots and opportunities will come," Schultz said. "You can't be forcing things and I don't think we have. 'Colesy' scored on his shot and I scored on mine the game before, so we're just capitalizing on our opportunities."
After a stellar few games, Cole and Schultz will likely get more ice time in the future.
"My college coach always had a line that I think makes a whole lot of sense. Those that play well will get rewarded with further play," head coach Mike Sullivan said. "This is a performance based business and obviously the guys that play well need to get on the ice. That theoretically is how we want to run our team, to compete hard, and certainly if players are playing well I think it's our responsibility and our obligation as coaches to reward them … That pair right now is playing extremely well for us."
