More than 40 Pittsburgh Penguins employees, led by head coach Dan Bylsma, are getting their hands dirty building a children's playground in McKees Rocks.
The event kicked off bright and early Friday morning with an 8:30 a.m. start time. And although the volunteers are currently deterred by a storm passing over the area, they're planning on getting right back to work once the sky clears.
The Pens employees are working with volunteers from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, McKees Rocks Borough, the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation and organizers from KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to “saving play” and encouraging kids to play outdoors.UPDATE:
As of approximately 3 p.m. this afternoon, the playground at 3rd Street Park was officially completed! The volunteers battled through an intense thunderstorm and then the blistering sun, but their efforts paid off in the end. CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTO GALLERY
