Two Top 10 teams, Boston College and Quinnipiac, will be featured along with local host Robert Morris and Ferris State at the 5th annual Three Rivers Classic college hockey tournament Dec. 29-30 at PPG Paints Arena.
Quinnipiac, currently ranked No. 6 in the country, and Boston College, ranked No, 8, both reached the NCAA Frozen Four in 2016. Quinnipiac defeated BC, 3-2, in the national semifinals before losing to North Dakota in the NCAA championship game.
BC and Quinnipiac will meet again at 4:30 and Robert Morris will take on Ferris State at 7:30 on Dec. 29.
The championship and consolation games will be played on Dec. 30.
"We're excited to again host some of the best teams in college hockey right here in Pittsburgh," said tournament director Scott Zimmerman. "It's a chance for our fans to see future NHL stars and a tremendous, fast-paced style of play."
"I can speak on behalf of all four teams when I say we very much look forward to playing at PPG Paints Arena, home of the Stanley Cup champion Penguins," said Robert Morris coach Derek Schooley. "The Three Rivers Classic has already provided the city with some exciting moments and outstanding hockey, and this tournament should be no exception. Robert Morris is again proud to serve as the host team."
