2012 First-Round Draft Picks Derrick Pouliot and Olli Maatta, and Recent Acquisition Brian Dumoulin Among Prospects Scheduled to Attend Penguins’ Annual Development Camp

Both of the Pittsburgh Penguins 2012 first-round draft picks – defensemen Derrick Pouliot (8th overall) and Olli Maatta (22nd overall) – as well as defenseman Brian Dumoulin, a Hobey Baker finalist (top college hockey player) who was acquired in the Jordan Staal trade, will be among the prospects attending the team’s annual development camp July 10-14 at CONSOL Energy Center, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Recent first-round draft picks Simon Despres (2009, 30th overall), Beau Bennett (2010, 20th overall) and Joe Morrow (2011, 23rd overall) will also be at camp.

Among the others scheduled to attend are 2011 second-round draft pick Scott Harrington, who won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2012 World Junior Championships, and 2012 second-round draft pick Teddy Blueger, who attended the same Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school as Sidney Crosby. A full roster will be announced next week.

Once again the Penguins are encouraging fans to attend the camp’s final scrimmage on Saturday, July 14 at 3 p.m. at CONSOL Energy Center. The scrimmage is free and will be open to the public.

The group of rookies and prospects will be in Pittsburgh taking part in on-ice practice and scrimmage sessions, undergoing medical and fitness testing and attending meetings and seminars.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton head coach John Hynes, WBS assistant coach Alain Nasreddine, Penguins assistant to the general manager Tom Fitzgerald, Penguins player development coach Bill Guerin, Penguins goaltending development coach Mike Bales, Penguins strength and conditioning coach Mike Kadar and WBS strength and conditioning coach Joe Lorincz will serve as camp instructors.

A complete camp schedule with media availability will be released at a later date.
