Each summer some of the best youth hockey players in the state of Pennsylvania come together to compete for regional bragging rights.  The Keystone State Games were first played in 1982 and now every summer the event is a showcase of some of the state's most talented ice hockey players.

The tournament follows a 3-game, Olympic-style format where players compete in 4 divisions: Bantam, Midget, Junior Male, and Junior Female.  In each division a gold, silver, and bronze medal is awarded.  In addition to these winners, the Games award the Sharrer Cup to the region who performs the best overall in all 4 divisions.  This award is named after KSG Ice Hockey Director and Founder Roger Sharrer, whose dedication and leadership in the sport of ice hockey led to this recognition.

This year's event was held in late July at the Twin Ponds Ice Arena in Harrisburg, PA.  For the first time since 2000, the Central region captured the Sharrer Cup after the three day event.  A gold medal in the Bantam division, along with silver medals in the Midget and Junior Male divisions, allowed the Central team to edge out the South region's team by 7 points overall.

The results of the tournament illustrated the competitive balance in ice hockey across the state.  According to KSG chair Owen Costello, this year's competition was the first one in the 30 year history of the event where each region won a gold medal in one of the divisions.
