The 2009 Christmas holiday will be a lot brighter for many disadvantaged local children through the generosity of Penguins fans!
Wives and girlfriends of Penguins’ players and coaching staff and members of the U.S. Marine Corps accepted donations of new, unwrapped toys and cash donations at two consecutive home games in December for the benefit of the Toys for Tots program. The Marines will distribute the toys or use the monetary contributions to purchase toys for needy children in the community and deliver a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters.
This annual toy collection was started in 1992 and has garnered more than 18,630 toys and $47,950 in cash since its inception.
The Toys for Tots program is dedicated to helping less fortunate children throughout the Pittsburgh area experience the joy of the holiday season. The Pittsburgh Penguins organization is honored and proud to partner with the U.S. Marine Corps in this endeavor to serve and improve our local community.
