Panthers play-by-play man Steve Goldstein is in Vancouver to cover the Olympic games for Westwood One radio. And while he's there, he'll be blogging on his experiences and his thoughts on the hockey tournament and the Olympics in general. Only seen on floridapanthers.com, enjoy as Steve brings you closer to the action (unless you're actually in Vancouver and at the games that is).
It's the calm before the hockey storm.
Another beautiful sunny day here in Vancouver with temperatures in the 50's and the buildup to Sunday's triple header, Super Sunday I will call it, is exciting.
In Game 1 the Russians, off a shootout loss to Slovakia, play the Czech Republic. Much of the talk here is about the Panthers Tomas Vokoun and how well he is playing and has played this season. Some folks from Chicago keep asking me "can we get him?"...please! I don't think so. He's too valuable for the Panthers.
Then the United States/Canada matchup with a spot in the quarterfinals is at stake. It will be Martin Brodeur vs. Ryan miller in goal.
In the night cap, Sweden and Finland meet, again with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line as both teams have two regulation wins.
These six teams are loaded with NHL stars, quality goaltending and maybe most important of all, national pride. I'll need the day off on Monday after this "Super Sunday" of hockey.Likely U.S. lineupForwards
