Trying Hockey For Free

It's Hockey Weekend Across America this weekend and the Iceplex will host a special Try Hockey for Free clinic on Saturday in celebration of the game on ice from 12-1pm.

The clinic will give boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 9 years old an unique opportunity to try the sport and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, save environment.

The Try Hockey for Free clinic is part of USA Hockey’s 6th annual Hockey Weekend Across America celebration, which runs nationwide Feb. 15-17. The program is designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport and is a joint‐effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, and NHL member clubs. With Total Hockey and Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports, the official sponsors of Try Hockey For Free Day, USA Hockey has 200 locations offering kids

“We look forward to introducing new families to our sport," said Vice President and General Manager of Iceplex Jeff Campol. "The Iceplex staff will provide all registered participants with sticks and skates to use during the clinic.

"Parents signing up their child are asked to bring a hockey or bike helmet, gloves and warm clothing. USA Hockey registered instructors and volunteers will be on the ice to ensure that every child has personalized attention and has a blast. We look forward to a fun-filled day of hockey and hope that these participants create the first of many lifelong memories playing this great game.”

The sixth annual Hockey Weekend Across America, presented by CCM, is a three-day celebration of the sport of hockey at every level. Each day of the weekend has a theme, including Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey, sponsored by on Friday, Feb. 15; Try Hockey For Free Day, sponsored by the NHL, on Saturday, Feb.16, including 200 locations hosting Try Hockey for Free clinics; and Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes, on Sunday.
