Tomas Vokoun Named National Hockey League’s Third Star of the Month for January

SUNRISE, FL – The National Hockey League announced today that Florida G Tomas Vokoun has been named the league’s third star of the month for January.
Vokoun, 33, started in all 14 games for Florida in January going 8-4-2 with four shutouts, a 1.49 GAA and a .956 save percentage. He recorded his career best seventh shutout of the season yesterday in Florida’s 2-0 win over the New York Islanders. Vokoun ranks tied for first among the league’s goaltending leaders with seven shutouts and places second among league’s leaders with a .932 save percentage. Earlier this month, Vokoun set a franchise record by posting a 202:16 home shutout streak, not allowing a goal on home ice from the first period on Jan. 16 to the second period on Jan. 26.
The Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic native has played in 45 games with Florida this season going 19-16-9 with a 2.32 GAA and a .932 save percentage and will represent his country at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Florida (24-22-9, 7th overall in the Eastern Conference) hosts the Anaheim Ducks (25-23-7) this evening in a game that can be heard on SportsTalk 790 The Ticket, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
