The Amerks and Heat will be heading to Western Canada with their series all knotted at one.

That's because Rochester used a three-goal second period to propel them to a 4-1 victory Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena.

Abbotsford scored first for the second game in a row when John Lammers beat Tyler Plante with 4:17 left in the opening period.

But that would be the only time Plante would be beat as he finished with 30 saves in the contest.

Rochester on the other hand would find their offense 3:53 into the second period. On a 4-on-3 power play, Jason Garrison fired a one-timer past former Amerk/Panther draft pick David Shantz to tie the game.

Then Mike Duco would net the eventual game-winner 9:00 in as he picked up a loose puck and deposited it into the wide open net. The Amerks finished out the hat trick of a period when Graham Mink deflected home Garrison's point shot for their second power play goal of the night.

Jeff Taffe would end the scoring for the game on a pretty play 5:23 into the third. Heading up the ice with Shawn Matthias, Taffe one-timed the Matthias pass into the back of the net for the 4-1 lead.

Things got chippy at the end as both teams tried to show that it would be a long series. Matthias and Abbotsford's Carter Bancks dropped the gloves with 2:02 left in the contest. The Panthers/Amerks center landed several big rights as he got the best of the affair. Then with 1:41 left, six players picked up a total of 56 penalty minutes, including four 10 minute misconducts.

NOTES: Mike Duco (goal), Jason Garrison (goal, assist) and Mike York (three assists) were named the three stars of the game. The teams combined for 96 penalty minutes in the contest. Rochester finished the game 2 for 5 on the power play while Abbotsford went 0 for 3. In the seven series that have played at least two games, the Rochester/Abbotsford series is the only one to start off with each team earning a victory.
