The Great Playoff Debate: Round 3

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
After some more right and wrong picks in the second round, Panthers broadcasters Steve Goldstein (FSN Florida) and Randy Moller (790 The Ticket) break down the Conference Final series.

The two will each pick a winner for each series and why they think that team will win. While Moller held a slight edge over Goldstein after the first-round picks, correctly guessing five series correctly to Goldstein's four, Goldstein got the best of Moller in the second round of picks, correctly guessing three of the four matchups. Moller only guessed half of the series correctly.

Red Deer has a “hunch”…and it ain’t no “bunch”…..

Eastern Conference Finals

Philadelphia vs Pittsburgh... The surprise of the playoffs? How about the “surging” Flyers. Took care of the (favorite) Montreal Canadians by shocking the Habs in 5 games. RJ Umburger leads Philly with 9 goals (don’t you wish you had RJ in your playoff office pool?!!!), and Martin Biron is showing his critics wrong, with his strong showing in goal. But, the young, talented, Penguins are hungry to get back to the Finals for the first time since 1992. Evgeni Malkin is “All-World”, leading Pittsburgh’s 5 game series win over the NY Rangers with 4 goals and 7 points! Sidney Crosby, Petr Sykora, and squad have benefited from the “trade deadline” darling, Marian Hossa who is hotter than a country stove at Saturday night’s “square dance!!”….The 1st “Battle of Pennsylvania” since 2000 will go to the team with more talent and depth…..Penguins waddle to victory in 6 games.

Western Conference Finals

Detroit vs Dallas... 1st playoff meeting between the Stars and the Red Wings since 1998. Detroit “crushed” the Avalanche last round, and the hottest player in the game today, Johan Franzen, leads all playoff performers with 11 goals, 9 against Colorado. Chris Osgood has been spectacular in goal (6-0) since replacing Hasek, back in the 1st round. Although Detroit was 3-1 against the Stars in the regular season, Marty Turco is my favorite so far for the Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoff MVP). A blistering 1.73 goals against average through the first two rounds!! Are you kidding me? Brad Richards will be the “star” in this series…. Motown will sing the blues… Big “D” will be back in the Finals for the first time since 2000..… Stars in 7

Steve "Goldie" Goldstein chooses his winners.

Just what the doctor ordered... a Pittsburgh - Detroit Stanley Cup final. They will both win their series and meet for the cup.

Eastern Conference Finals

Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia... Both teams are red hot as the battle for the Keystone State commences. The Penguins are 8-1 in the playoffs while the Flyers won the clinching games of their series on the road. Pittsburgh will prove to be too much in a great 7 game series. The Flyers have come a long way in just one year but it is Pittsburgh's time to shine. Crosby and Malkin are too much for Briere & Richards.

Western Conference Finals

Detroit vs Dallas... The Wings were my pick from the start and there is no reason to deviate now. They are loaded up front with new stars emerging, and that blueline is as solid as ever; anchored by the best, Niklas Lidstrom. Dallas has been hot and Marty Turco deserves all the kudos he is getting. His ride ends with the Red Wings jamming the front of the net and creating havoc. Motor City in 6.
