SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin announced today RW Anthony Stewart has accepted his qualifying offer.
“Anthony is an individual that continues to develop his skills within our organization,” said Martin. “He has been given the opportunity to compete at the NHL level and he understands the discipline and work ethic that is necessary to play at that level. We are confident that he will train hard this off-season and be prepared to compete for a spot on our club during training camp.”
Stewart, 23, was recalled for the Rochester Americans (AHL) seven times last season appearing in 26 games with the Panthers recording one assist. He also played in 54 games with Rochester scoring 13 goals with 18 assists and 61 PIM. For his career with the Panthers, he has played in 46 games registering five points (2-3-5) and four penalty minutes.
Stewart was selected by the Panthers in the first round (25th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
