Rookie Rant: Start Of The Season

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
Yendi
Following the huge success of last season's Kelli's Korner, floridapanthers.com would like to introduce this season's BOVA Panthers Ice Dancer blogger, Yendi. A rookie this season, Yendi will be sharing her thoughts on this upcoming season from what's going on with the dancers to what's going on and off the ice, as well as anything else that she cares to discuss in her blog known as ROOKIE RANT.

Ok, this season’s Florida Panther’s home opener was so exciting even though the Bova Panthers Ice Dancers had so much going on all over the BankAtlantic Center! From the Radio Disney area by the Publix Kid’s Corner to the suite visits - which by the way have the best view (talk about WOW, hockey in-style); we gave hugs, took photos and tried to recruit mini Ice Dancers. The girls were buzzing in the locker room - rookies were nervous, veterans were excited and we all had the adrenaline of pre-show jitters pumping. We tested out our new Locker Room Camera let’s just say the rest of the season is going to get interesting folks. We are now on Stanley watch thanks to that crazy Panther’s practical jokes, this time he snuck into our technical rehearsal on the ice and almost scared the eye lashes off of us!

During the home opener, I was able to catch the second goal in the 3rd period by center Stephen Weiss with assists from the defense Dmitry Kulikov and goalie Tomas Vokoun, can you say “what a rush!” Whenever we score a goal we have the cutest goal dance with our shiny poms (I know, I know, what can I say, I love sparkly things) you have to be there to catch it.

David Booth did not let five minutes pass in the first period before he got a penalty for elbowing. Panthers did score their first goal of the game in the second period as left wing Rostislav Olesz  made the shot with assists from right wing Radek Dvorak and defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.   In any case, I am loving hockey this season! The harder the boys play the easier it is for us to dance on the ice thanks to the chopped ice from their skates.

We got a sneak peak at our squad photo and all I am allowed to say is that each girl was extremely happy with the way she turned out – which is a pretty big deal. Keep your eye out for this year’s hottest dance team on the ice! Don’t forget to check back for our Locker Room Cam and the crazy practical joke war Stanley C. Panther has declared on the Ice Dancers.

Our rookie of the week is our baby Brianna. This girl is a bundle of energy and stamina with the brightest smile. She has an awesome attitude and never goes without a laugh at least once during practice.  She is one of the smallest girls on the squad but has one of the highest kicks. I have nick named her “Salpica” [pronounced sal-pee-ka] which means mini explosion in Spanish because she literally is a mini explosion of energy. Brianna also has the best technique for pom pom scrunching; she will share with us in our next video entry as we introduce the Bova Panthers Ice Dancers Locker Room Cam. So stay tuned from more Rookie Rant as we get ready for our calendar unveiling and bikini fashion show media tour and of course your Rookie of the Week.

I gotta feeling this is going to be a GRRRREAT season!

GO PANTHERS
XOXO,
Yendi
