Record Crowd Of Nearly 1,300 Fans Attend Florida Panthers Rookie Game Wednesday Night

SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that a record crowd of nearly 1,300 fans attended last night’s Florida Panthers rookie game vs. the Nashville Predators – the first official event of the newly named Iceplex.

In addition to the game, the Florida Panthers Foundation raised over $500 in donations, the Panthers Party Patrol vans and inflatables entertained fans outside the Iceplex’s main entrance, and original Panthers Brian Skrudland (Dir. of Player Development), Gord Murphy (Asst. Coach) and Billy Lindsay (TV announcer), hosted former season ticket holders during a special Reconnect Event at the Panthers Den Rink.
“Last night’s rookie game and associated events made for an incredible atmosphere for our fans, players and staff,” said Panthers executive vice president & general manager Dale Tallon. “It was exciting to see the great support from our fans last night, and the buzz around Training Camp from both the media and our supporters has been absolutely extraordinary.”
Florida Panthers 2010 Training Camp – Welcomes Eagles – will begin with the team’s first on-ice practice on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. at the IcePlex. On Sunday, Sept. 19 the team will host Hockey Day in South Florida, a day-long fan festival highlighted with numerous events for the Florida Panthers hockey enthusiast.
The Panthers are expected to have 66 players (39 forwards, 21 defensemen and 6 goalies) attend both their rookie and main training camp. All training camp practices (unless otherwise noted) will be held at the IcePlex and are free and open to the public.

Festivities for the Panthers opening weekend of training camp include:
- Free open viewing of Panthers first training practice (Saturday: 9 a.m. – Noon)
- Panthers Party Patrol set-up outside IcePlex (Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – Noon & Sunday: Noon – 4 p.m.)
- Florida Panthers Ice Dancers & Panthers Alumni Association car wash benefiting Florida Panthers Foundation (Saturday: 8 a.m. – Noon)
- Sports Radio 560 WQAM radio remote hosted by Big O & “Red Deer” Randy Moller (Saturday: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  in Breakaway Bar & Grill)
- Panthers game-used equipment sale (Saturday: noon – 4 p.m.)
- Free Coaching clinic for youth hockey coaches conducted by Florida Panthers coaching staff (Sunday: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.)
- Free intrasqaud blue vs. white scrimmage followed by player autographs (Sunday: 2 p.m. -3:15 p.m.)
