Rats Roundup: The Cats Are Back

Good Morning folks and welcome to Rats Roundup!

It is a big week in South Florida, as your Florida Panthers kick off their 2017-18 season tonight in Tampa Bay at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, October 7th, the Panthers are back in action against the Lightning for their 2017-18 home opener at BB&T Center.


The Panthers will honor hurricane heroes and first responders during the first home game of the season at BB&T Center. There will be other special guests in attendance throughout the night as well.

The Panthers have announced that Bokamper's will return as the official watch party location for the 2017-18 season.

Bokamper's will host seven watch parties throughout the Panthers season. The first watch party will take place on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Bokamper's in Plantation when the Panthers play their intrastate rivals the Tampa Bay Lightning in Tampa Bay.

Fans can enjoy the Panther burger that includes onions, fries and bacon as well as $15 Coors Light buckets, $7.99 New Amsterdam Doubles, and a 10% Team Discount on your bill excluding specials. There will be exclusive giveaways during watch parties.


This season, defenseman Alex Petrovic will take part in a Panthers blog, giving fans an insight as to the journey a player can take throughout the course of a NHL season. Click HERE to read the first entry, and stay tuned to for more as the season continues.


The Panthers have named their 23-man roster for Opening Night, and first-round pick Owen Tippett earned a spot out of training camp. For the full roster, click HERE.

"It's an amazing feeling," said Tippett, who learned of the news via social media. "It's something that I've been working for every since I was a little kid. To be on an NHL roster, it's something I've been working for even harder ever since I got drafted. It's a special feeling."

Tippett, 18, is eligible to play nine NHL games before his entry-level contract kicks in, after which the Panthers will have to decide whether he'll remain with the team for the remainder of the season or be returned to Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League.

Tippett will attempt to become the first 18-year old to stick with the Panthers since Aaron Ekblad won the Calder Trophy in 2014-15.


Panthers fans! A new voice will be leading Florida Panthers fans in cheers this season, as veteran emcee Dennis McCamery has been tapped to take over lead in-arena hosting duties during home games at the BB&T Center in 2017-18.

A longtime veteran in the world of entertainment, McCamery has previously leant his immense talents to a wide variety of outlets, including Walt Disney World, Six Flags, ESPN and, most recently, the NBA's Orlando Magic.
