Rats Roundup - March 25

by Kyle Morrison / Florida Panthers

Get your popcorn ready. Tomorrow’s matchup in Tampa Bay could go a long way in determining the winner of the Atlantic, as the Floridian franchises occupy the top two spots in the division.

The Cats have a bit of momentum on their side, after taking down the Bruins – the first win in Boston for the Panthers since December of 2011.

It was also the first #SpaceyInSpace nod for defenseman Steven Kampfer, who made an incredible play to stop a Boston goal (above) and added an assist in the win.

Speaking of #SpaceyInSpace…

Kevin Spacey dropped by the BB&T Center on Saturday – donning a #SpaceyInSpace hoodie and using a Spacey Facey as a mask – to take in a Panthers game.

Want one of those hoodies? Good news; they’re available online for purchase. And, again, all of the proceeds from your purchase go towards the Kevin Spacey Foundation and the Florida Panthers Foundation.

Vincent Trocheck earned another first star nod last night, after going top-shelf for a shorthanded goal and adding an assist in the win. Trocheck’s line – he’s been centering Reilly Smith and Jussi Jokinen – has emerged as a force within the division, and the centerman is making quite a name for himself.

The 22-year-old center now has 52 points on the season, good for third on the team behind Jokinen and the ageless wonder himself, Jaromir Jagr.

We pretty much copy and paste this line every week in Rats Roundup, but Dryden Hunt is good. Really good. Jameson Olive profiled him for FloridaPanthers.com this week. Here’s an excerpt where Hunt talks about the attention he got from NHL clubs after posting five hat tricks in an eight-game span:

"That’s when the attention kind of blew up,” Hunt recalls. “I was kind of the unknown. I came into the season wanting to have a good season as a 20-year-old and make lasting impression. It was obviously nice to get the recognition.”

Shout out to these two fans, who represented the Cats last night in the TD Garden. They made it onto the Fox Sports Florida broadcast a few times throughout the game, but their finest moment came after Reilly Smith’s goal.

Bonus points for the matching Brian Campbell jerseys.
