Sharing a Passion for Hockey

On Dec. 1, the Panthers held a special practice at BB&T Center for the Panthers Special Hockey Team.

The team, created in a collaboration between the Panthers and the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA), aims to bring the world of hockey and those with special abilities together in an effort to show that anyone can play the sport.

What made the first-ever practice for those on the team extra special was that Cats forward Frank Vatrano was in attendance to take them on a tour of the Panthers locker room and gym and answered any questions they had about what it takes to be an NHL player. The Panthers also assisted in the annual Thanksgiving tournament at BB&T Center, Panthers IceDen and Pines Ice Arena in November.

Youth hockey teams from Mexico, Russia, Slovakia, Canada and the United States all took part in the tournament. To read up on the journey of the Santa Fe Kings, Mexico's representative squad and who was playing in the tournament for the first time, click HERE.
