Rats Roundup - Blood Drive, Huby Rewind & More

by Kyle Morrison / Florida Panthers

Welcome to Friday! Congratulations on making it to the end of the week, you’ve definitely earned it.

Let’s start this Rats Roundup off with the most important thing on the agenda, today’s blood drive. We are partnering with OneBlood and the City of Sunrise to put the event together. It’s all going to benefit those affected by the tragic shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

So, if you have time today – and are able to donate blood – please come on down to the BB&T Center this afternoon. OneBlood is taking donations between 2-7 p.m., and there will be food trucks, inflatables and other activities as well. Also, if you donate blood, you’ll receive a 20% discount on any Pantherland purchases.

To make an appointment to donate, go to www.OneBlood.org, click DONATE NOW and enter FLORIDA PANTHERS as your sponsor.

HUBY REWIND

As for hockey-related content from this week, our Season Rewind series continued with a look at Jonathan Huberdeau. And really, this GIF is the best argument for you to read the entire thing.

Man, what a snipe.

And while he set career highs in goals (20) and points (59), our own Jameson Olive picked out another prominent stat from Huberdeau’s season.

"Although he is mainly known for his ability to dazzle on offense, Huberdeau has quietly become Florida’s foremost authority in another, somewhat unheralded, statistic – drawing penalties.

With rapid reflexes and an unrelenting motor, Huberdeau credits his fancy footwork and on-ice determination for helping him lead the Panthers in penalties drawn for the fourth consecutive season."

The whole thing is worth a read, and chock full of highlights, quotes and more, so check it out.

THUNDERBIRDS

A few weeks ago, we announced our AHL affiliation with Springfield Hockey, LLC. And earlier this week, that affiliate got a name.

Say hello to the Springfield Thunderbirds.

The team’s press release covers the story behind the logo, which is an homage to the two previous Springfield AHL teams – the Indians and the Falcons.

QUICK-HITTERS

- The NHL Awards are coming up next week, and we have your full primer

- Did you apply for the Roar Corps yet? Get on that!
