Two days later and the outcome was still the same in the Kitchener Rangers/Belleville Bulls game Friday night as the Rangers won a 5-2 decision. This time it came in the unfriendly confines of Yarmden Arena in Belleville. The Rangers now lead the series 2-0.
Similar to the first game, the Rangers opened up the scoring in the first period. It took a little while to get on the board, but Mashinter scored his first of the playoffs with 1:43 left in the opening period. And then, Kitchener got the two goal lead heading into the second period when Mike Duco scored his 13th of the playoffs with just one second left on the clock.
Belleville got on the board 14:54 into the second when Blundein had the unassisted tally. Matt Halischuk answered with the game winner just a 1:11 later with his 14th of the post season. The two-goal lead lasted a mere 18 seconds as the Bulls’ Beleskey scored his 9th.
But Kitchener’s defense clamped down, only allowing seven Bulls shots in the third period, while the Rangers offense added some insurance. Mikkel Boedker scored his 9th as Duco recorded the second assist on the tally 9:25 into the final period and Azevedo got his 7th at 14:19, bringing the scoring to an end.
Duco finished the night with the goal, assist, and a +1.
