Prospect Spotlight: NCAA Tournament

The NCAA D-1 Men’s Ice Hockey National Championship Tournament begins this Friday (March 27), with the final four teams competing in the Frozen Four in Boston, MA. The Florida Panthers have four college prospects competing for a chance to win a National title.

Boston College

D Michael Matheson – Drafted by Florida in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Now in his junior season with Boston College, the Eagles’ Captain is tied for the team-lead in scoring among defensemen with 23 points (2-21—23) in 37 games played.

D Ian McCoshen – Drafted by Florida in the second round (31st overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6’3”, 206 lb. sophomore has recorded 16 points (6-10—16) in 34 games with Boston College and leads the team with a plus-16 rating.

G Evan Cowley – Drafted by Florida in the fourth round (92nd overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft

The sophomore goaltender has played 20 games for the Pioneers this season, owning a 9-6-2 record, three shutouts, a 2.16 GAA and a .924 save percentage.


F Kyle Rau- Drafted by Florida in the third round (91st overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Serving as Captain for the University of Minnesota, Rau ranks second among Golden Gophers players with 41 points (20-21—41) in 38 games played. Rau’s 20 goals this season is a college-career high for the Minnesota senior.
