Post-Game Comments vs. Philadelphia

by Staff Writer / Florida Panthers
Head Coach Jacques Martin
Strong play of Ed Belfour.
"I got a real strong performance out of Eddie [Belfour]. He made some key saves and had a lot of big saves for us. We found a way to win [the game]. We got two goals from [Chris] Gratton's line. We had to kill some penalties until the third period, and we did pretty well."

Does your approach change when you get that goal early in the third period?
"Yes. You still want to put some pressure and get some opportunities. We had three penalties we had to kill in the third, which took six minutes of time and our penalty killing did a great job. It was a really strong game by Eddie [Belfour] and he played really well."

Captain Olli Jokinen
Comment on tonight's game.
"We got a little luck tonight. It was the first time in a while that the puck was bouncing our way. Without Eddie [Belfour], we probably would have lost the game. [The Flyers] had a lot of chances and we took a lot of penalties again. They're a young hockey team and a really talented group. 'You can't let the standings fool you before a game,' that was our point. The coaching staff wanted to make sure that we were ready. We played against Los Angeles a month ago and they were in last place, but we lost 7-0 at home. We were ready to battle, but we got some lucky bounces tonight and got two points. Anything is possible, so we're keeping our hopes alive and ready to prepare for the next game."

Is it better to be lucky than good?
"We haven't had that much luck [this season]. You can count this one as one of our few lucky wins. Eddie [Belfour] was as outstanding as he's been. He got us through the game and made some big saves and you need that if you want to win in this league. You need good goaltending and he has been giving us that right now."

Defenseman Ruslan Salei
How good was Ed Belfour today?
"He was amazing. He played like he did five/ten years ago. No, I'm kidding. He's been playing like this for us and he gives us a chance every game, and tonight was a great game for him."

Question: Did he put the team on his back to win the game?
"Tonight, he was huge. We got two points just because of him."

Do you come out of this road trip saying it was a pretty good trip?
"We got two points tonight and that's all we can worry about right now. We just have to get ready for our next game on Saturday now. That is our focus and we can't do anything about the games that we've lost."
