Florida Panthers LW Ville Peltonen (Finland) and RW Rostislav Olesz (Czech Republic) will both play for their respective countries at the 2007 World Hockey Championship that will be held in Russia, beginning on April 27. Finland will open up play against the Ukraine while the Czech Republic will open against Belarus.
Peltonen, 33, has represented Finland 11 previous times at the World Hockey Championship, while he has also competed in three Winter Olympics (1994, 1998 & 2006), as well as the World Cup of Hockey in 2004. Most recently, he helped Team Finland earn a Silver Medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and a Bronze Medal at the 2006 World Hockey Championship.
In his first season with the Panthers, Peltonen recorded 17 goals with 20 assists and a +7 rating. For his career in the National Hockey League, he has 97 points (35-62-97) in 247 games played.
Olesz, 21, earned a Bronze medal while playing for the Czech Republic at the 2006 Winter Olympics last season. This marks his first appearance at the World Hockey Championship, but he did represent his country at the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship scoring seven goals with three assists.
In his sophomore season with the Panthers, Olesz recorded 11 goals and 19 assists with a +2 rating. For his career with the Cats he has notched 51 points (19-32-51) and 52 PIM.
