SUNRISE, Fla. – After completion of the National Hockey League Draft drawing this evening, the Florida Panthers will select No. 3 overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft to be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The first round will take place on Friday, June 24 commencing at 7 p.m. (EST), with the subsequent rounds (two-seven) beginning at 11 a.m. (EST) on Saturday, June 25.
The Florida Panthers will choose third overall for the second consecutive year, last year selecting D Erik Gudbranson
with the third overall choice.
The order of selection for the first 14 drafting positions in the first round, only, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft is as follows:
4. New Jersey (won Draft Drawing and moved up from 8th)
5. NY Islanders
9. Boston (from TOR)
11. Colorado (conditional/optional from STL)
According to NHL Central Scouting Bureau C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Western Hockey League and D Adam Larsson of the Swedish Elite League are the top NHL 2011 draft-eligible skaters from North America and Europe. Other players who will receive first overall draft considerations include, No. 2 ranked left wing Gabriel Landeskog (Stockholm, Sweden) of the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers and No. 3-ranked center Jonathan Huberdeau
(Laval, Quebec) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Saint John Sea Dogs.
