Panthers To Pick Third Overall in 2010 NHL Entry Draft

SUNRISE, Fla. – After completion of the National Hockey League Draft drawing this evening, the Florida Panthers will select No. 3 overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The first round will take place on Friday, June 25 commencing at 7 p.m. (EST), with the subsequent rounds beginning at 1 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, June 26.
“With the third overall pick we have a number of options available to us,” said Panthers General Manager Randy Sexton. “We are in a very unique position; we can keep it trade up or trade down. With the third pick we feel we have a lot of flexibility and we will go through extensive player evaluations with our scouting staff and choose the best player that fits our mold for the ideal Panther player.”
The order of selection for the first 14 drafting positions in the first round, only, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft is as follows:
1. Edmonton 2. Boston (from Toronto) 3. Florida 4. Columbus 5. NY Islanders 6. Tampa Bay 7. Carolina 8. Atlanta 9. Minnesota 10. NY Rangers 11. Dallas 12. Anaheim 13. Phoenix (from Calgary) 14. St. Louis
According to NHL Central Scouting the top three North American skaters in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft are Tyler Seguin (Plymouth – OHL), Taylor Hall (Windsor – OHL) and Brett Connolly (Prince George – WHL). The top three international skaters are Mikael Granlund (HIFK), Vladimir Tarasenko (Novosibirsk) and Evgeny Kunetsov (Chelyabinsk).
