SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that the Florida Panthers will honor the Florida Scholastic Hockey League Division champion teams from North Broward Prep and Spanish River High School on Thursday, Feb. 27 during the Panthers-Capitals game at 7:30 p.m. at BB&T Center.
“The entire Florida Panthers organization is honored to recognize the North Broward Prep and Spanish River hockey teams for their incredible seasons,” said Panthers President and CEO Michael R. Yormark. “We believe strongly in supporting our local youth hockey teams and they have both had exceptional years both on and off the ice.”
North Broward Prep, coached by Panthers alum Peter Worrell, won the FSHL Division I Championship with a 2-1 shootout victory over Stoneman Douglas before winning the Florida state title. Spanish River earned the Division II Championship with a 7-5 victory over Cooper City University. North Broward Prep advances to the national tournament in Omaha, NE.
"We can’t thank the Panthers enough for this incredible honor,” said Worrell. “We look forward to an exciting night at BB&T Center as we celebrate the season we have had so far while also preparing to win a national championship."
