SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms on an entry level contract with G Jacob Markstrom
“Jacob is a very skilled and talented young goaltender who we are pleased to have reached a contract agreement with,” said Tallon. “He has performed exceptionally well in the Swedish Elite League, as well as in international competition. He will continue to improve and develop his game while playing in North America and we look forward to his contributions to our organization.”
Markstrom, 20, played in 43 games with Brynas IF (SEL) during the 2009-10 season posting a 20-10-10 mark with a 2.01 GAA and a .927 save percentage. The Galve, Sweden native was named the Swedish Elite League’s Goalie of the Year for his accomplishments.
Most recently, Markstrom played in three games at the 2010 IIHF World Championships going 3-0 with a 1.33 GAA and one shutout, helping Sweden earn the Bronze Medal. Markstrom also helped Sweden earn a Bronze Medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships, playing in five contests with a 4-1-0 record.
Markstrom was drafted by Florida with their first choice (31st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Markstrom becomes the seventh prospect to be signed by the Florida this off-season joining Scott Timmins
