On Dec. 2, USA Hockey unveiled their 30-man preliminary roster for the 2015 National Junior Team. Florida Panthers Prospects D Michael Downing and D Ian McCoshen were invited to the team’s training camp Dec. 16-19 in Boston, MA.
Downing, a sophomore at the University of Michigan has recorded six points (3-3–6) and 35 penalty minutes in 13 games this season. The 19-year old Canton, Michigan native has recorded 18 points (5-13–18) and 95 penalty minutes in 47 games through his collegiate career. Downing was selected by Florida in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
McCoshen, a sophomore at Boston College has recorded four points (1-3–4) and 20 penalty minutes in 13 games this season. The 19-year old Hudson, Wisconsin native has recorded 17 points (6-11–17) in 48 games through his collegiate career. The BC defenseman represented Team USA at the 2014 World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden. McCoshen was selected by Florida in the second round (31st overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
The team’s roster will be finalized on Dec. 24 before the team heads to the 2015 World Junior Championship. The tournament will take place Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario.
