What a game here on long Island. The Panthers lose 5-4, dropping the shootout 2-0. It's a point earned on a night that saw the lead go back and forth. Isles led 2-0, Panthers led 3-2, NY up 4-3 before Ruslan Salei tied it in the final minute to get the game into overtime. Salei had a goal and 3 assists while Gary Roberts, Natahan Horton and Stephen Weiss also scored. The Panthers had a golden opportunity to win it with a power play in overtime but the closest they came to cashing in was Horton's shot off the outside of the post. NY came out harder than the Cats to start and got the 2-0 lead. With a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period the Islanders again had the jump and got the game tied then took the lead with 1:50 left. Salei's goal got the Panthers a point tonight and the goal goes deeper than that. Losing a 3rd period lead would have been damaging to the team's psyche after winning 2 in a row. The key now is what happens tomorrow at Madison Sqaure Garden. A win and it's a heck of a weekend in New York. QAM airtime from MSG is 6:30.
