Panthers Open Training Camp On Sept. 13 In Nova Scotia

SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers open their 2009 training camp on Sunday, Sept. 13 in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, with their first on-ice session at 9 a.m. The Panthers training camp roster consists of 54 players, which includes 30 forwards, 19 defensemen and five goaltenders.


 
The players will be broken into two teams, with the players alternating pre-season game competition.  Head Coach Pete DeBoer along with, Assistant Coach Mike Kitchen and Assistant Coach Jim Hulton will conduct the on-ice sessions, while strength and conditioning coach Craig Slaunwhite will work with the players during their off-ice workouts.
 
After two days of on-ice and off-ice training in Port Hawkesbury, the Panthers open their pre-season slate with a game against the Ottawa Senators at the Halifax Metro Centre on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The team will also play contests in Ottawa (Sept. 16), in Montreal (Sept. 17), in Edmonton (Sept. 18), in Calgary (Sept. 20) and in Dallas (Sept. 22), before returning to South Florida. The Panthers will host their lone preseason game on Wednesday, Sept. 23 against the Dallas Stars at 7:30 p.m.
 
Florida closes out their pre-season schedule with two games in Finland on Monday, Sept. 28 at the Hakametsän Arena in Tampere against Tappara and on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki against Jokerit.
 
Florida opens the 2009-10 season as one of four teams (Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis) who will participate in the Compuware NHL Premiere Series that takes place in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. The Panthers will play the Blackhawks in a home-and-home series on Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3 at Hartwall Areena.
 
Upon returning to South Florida, the Panthers will play the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on Oct. 9, before hosting the defending Atlantic Division champion New Jersey Devils on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets to all games are available by calling (954) 835-PUCK.
