After a 7-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche at BB&T Center on Saturday snapped an encouraging three-game point streak, several Florida Panthers players vented their frustrations about the lack of consistency the team has shown this season.

In the third game of a critical five-game road trip, the Florida Panthers will once again hand the reigns over to goalie James Reimer, who will make his third start in four nights against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on Thursday.

In the absence of injured goaltender Roberto Luongo, who is expected to miss "an extended period of time" after suffering a lower-body injury on Dec. 4, Reimer appears to have finally settled into his new role as Florida's defacto starter. In the four games since Luongo went down, Reimer has posted a 2-1-1 record with a .900 save percentage.

Challenges shaping youthful core in Springfield

Panthers AHL affiliate undergoing on-the-fly makeover

by Patrick Williams / NHL.com Correspondent

The American Hockey League tested Florida Panthers prospects early.

A 2-11-1-0 start for Springfield included six consecutive losses to start the season. That kind of early-season turbulence would test any team at any level, especially a young group of prospects trying to find their way in the AHL.
