SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that the Florida Panthers will host the Washington Capitals on former Panthers netminder John Vanbiesbrouck Bobblehead night on Friday, Dec. 13 at the BB&T Center having won three of their last four games.
The Cats came back from a 2-0 third period deficit to beat the visiting Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout on Tuesday with young center Nick Bjugstad getting the tying goal in the third period and Aleksander Barkov and Brad Boyes notching shootout goals in the win.
Forward Sean Bergenheim chipped in with a goal, while Barkov and defensemen Erik Gudbranson, Dylan Olsen and Dmitry Kulikov all added assists.
Meanwhile, goaltender Tim Thomas got the win with 24 saves on an evening when the Panthers honored former player Stephen Weiss as he returned to South Florida for the first time as a visiting player. Thomas has won three straight contests while posting a 1.62 GAA and .938 save percentage over that span.
Friday’s game against the Capitals will feature the first of the Panthers 20th Anniversary Bobblehead series with Vanbiesbrouck bobbleheads given away to the first 10,000 Panthers fans in attendance. The first Panthers pick in the 1993 Expansion Draft will also be in attendance and will sign autographs for fans during the first intermission in the Den Of Honor. Following the game, the Cats head on a four-game road trip before heading back to the BB&T Center for five consecutive home games beginning with a Governor’s Cup matchup against Tampa Bay on Monday, Dec. 23.
With the win, fans that purchased tickets through the Panthers’ “We Win You Win” promotion will receive complimentary tickets for the Monday night game against Tampa.
