Coming off important wins versus Ottawa and Carolina, the Panthers were building momentum as they placed themselves in the thick of the playoff race.
The momentum unfortunately ran out as they took on the Philadelphia Flyers eventually succumbing 4-0.
The pace was slow at first for the Cats', but the team picked up speed in the second period firing shot after shot to no avail. Opportunities were abound throughout the night, but the Panthers snipers were no match for Robert Esche who recorded his first shutout of the season.
"It was a game where we didn't generate much chances and their players were better than ours," said Panthers head coach Jacques Martin.
Simon Gagne, Petr Nedved, R. J. Umberger and Jeff Carter scored for the Flyers.
Roberto Luongo stopped 26 shots for the Panthers.
Florida looks to rebound against the Islanders on Friday night at 7:30 at the BankAtlantic Center.
