Panthers Assign Matthias to Rochester

SUNRISE, FL – Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin announced today that the team has assigned C Shawn Matthias to the Rochester Americans (AHL).  In addition, the club has activated RW David Booth, RW Radek Dvorak and C Stephen Weiss from the injured reserve.


Matthias, 20, appeared in five preseason games with the Panthers scoring one goal with one assist and four PIM. The Mississauga, Ontario, native made his NHL debut last year with Florida, playing in four games scoring two goals.

The Florida Panthers open up their 2008-09 season tomorrow when they head to Raleigh to take on their Southeast Division rival Carolina Hurricanes. On Saturday, the Panthers will host the Atlanta Thrashers at 7 p.m. in the club’s home opener. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling (954) 835-PUCK.
