SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers announced today that they have teamed up with the U.S. Marine Corps and the Florida Panthers wives to collect toys for the annual Toys for Tots program.
The Florida Panthers Foundation will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to donate to Toys for Tots on the Saveology Plaza before Panthers home games on Dec. 4, 6 & 21. Florida Panthers players’ wives will be on hand to collect all donated toys and the Marines will also be available to assist in the collection.
Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to participate in the new Text a Toy program. With a simple text message, anyone can make a $5 donation to Toys for Tots by texting the word TOY to 90999. Each $5 donation will be added to the donor’s next mobile phone bill.
“It is an honor to partner with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to once again collect toys for children this holiday season,” said Florida Panthers Foundation Chairman Stu Siegel. “I would like to thank the Florida Panthers wives for assisting us in collecting toys – their support is invaluable to us as we aim to make a positive impact on the community during this holiday season and make this the most successful Toys for Tots toy drive in Florida Panthers history.”
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Over the 60 years of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 370 million toys to more than 173 million needy children. This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leaders in looking after needy children at Christmas.
