Panthers Acquire Bitz, Weller and Second Round Pick From Boston For Dennis Seidenberg

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers general manager Randy Sexton announced today that the club has acquired F Byron Bitz, F Craig Weller (Providence – AHL) and Tampa Bay’s second round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft from the Boston Bruins in exchange for D Dennis Seidenberg and the rights to D Matt Bartkowski (Ohio State – NCAA). Seidenberg was signed as a free agent by the Panthers on Sept. 14, 2009. Bartkowski was selected by the Panthers in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Bitz (6-foot-5), who played college hockey at Cornell University, has played 45 games for Boston this season scoring four goals and five assists for nine points. For his NHL career, Bitz has scored eight goals and 16 points in 80 games.
Weller (6-foot-4) has played in 55 games this year for Providence (AHL) scoring four goals and 10 assists for 14 points.
