SUNRISE, Fla. – The Florida Panthers in conjunction with the National Hockey League announced today that the team’s regular season games through Friday, Dec. 14 have been cancelled. The league also announced today the cancellation of the 2013 NHL All-Star Weekend scheduled for Jan. 26-27 in Columbus, Ohio.
“The reality of losing more regular-season games, as well as the 2013 NHL All-Star Weekend in Columbus, is extremely disappointing,” said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. “We feel badly for NHL fans and particularly those in Columbus, and we intend to work closely with the Blue Jackets organization to return the NHL All-Star events to Columbus and their fans as quickly as possible."
The cancellation includes Florida’s home games against Philadelphia (Dec. 1), Colorado (Dec. 11) and New Jersey (Dec. 13). Florida’s road games in Anaheim (Dec. 5), Los Angeles (Dec. 6) and Phoenix (Dec. 8) have also been cancelled.
The cancellation of the regular season games was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.
