NYI-FLA preview

ISLANDERS (15-16-8) at PANTHERS (19-16-8)
7:30 p.m. ET; FS-F, MSG+, NHL.TV

Islanders team scope

After three consecutive 2-1 losses, including one against the Panthers at Barclays Center on Wednesday, coach Jack Capuano has decided to switch up his forward lines to try to get more scoring. Veteran Andrew Ladd will move to the second line alongside Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome, and rookie Anthony Beauvillier will return to the lineup to play on the third line with Alan Quine and Jason Chimera. "Just the history of Andrew Ladd, the history of Brock Nelson and the history of Ryan Strome, we're just hoping that line we can get some secondary scoring," Capuano said. "For me, the chances are there. You just gotta find a way. They will find the back of the net and hopefully it'll be contagious amongst our group and it'll kick-start some of those guys." The top line of John Tavares, Josh Bailey and Anders Lee will remain intact. "It can't be Johnny's line every night carrying us," Strome said. "We kind of have to step up here if we can and chip away. Especially when you lose three games 2-1 because if you score two or three you're going to win and that shouldn't be too hard for our team." Goaltender Thomas Greiss will make his fifth consecutive start.

Panthers team scope

Forward Seth Griffith will return to the lineup after missing the past four games because of a concussion. Griffith will return to the top line alongside Vincent Trocheck and Jaromir Jagr. The Panthers, who defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-0 on Monday and the Islanders two nights later during a two-game road trip, are going for their first three-game winning streak of the season. "It would be amazing," forward Jonathan Marchessault said. "We don't even have a three-game winning streak so far this year. It's been tough, but we're playing good hockey and we're just focusing on every game when they come to us. It would be great to get over that not-good streak." Roberto Luongo, who passed Terry Sawchuk for fifth place on the NHL's all-time with his 448th career victory Monday before getting No. 449 on Wednesday, will start again.

Status report

Mayfield was recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League on Thursday after the Islanders placed Hamonic on injured reserve, retroactive to Jan. 7. Capuano said Mayfield and Gionta likely would play during the Islanders' current stretch of three games in four days. Beauvillier is back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the past four games. … Florida coach Tom Rowe said Petrovic and Bjugstad could be ready to return after the All-Star break, but Huberdeau likely won't be available until March. The injury to Barkov remains a mystery, as does a possible return date. "I'm not going to put a timeline on him anymore," Rowe said. "We're not rushing him back. It is what it is and we're just going to deal with it on a week-by-week basis." Barkov will miss his seventh game Friday.

Who's hot

Greiss hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of his past six starts. Bailey has seven assists in the past nine games. … Florida is second in the NHL since Nov. 29 in penalty killing (88.6 percent). Trocheck, who was named to the Atlantic Division roster for the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Game earlier this week, has nine points (four goals, five assists) in his past eight games.
