Richard Zednik,

I hope you feel better really soon. I am a season ticket holder for the Buffalo Sabres and I have never heard that stadium so quiet as it was last night waiting to hear some news about how you were doing. I was so relieved to her you were in stable condition. I don't even know you and I felt as if someone very close to me jusdt got hurt. The NHL is a VERY tight community of players and fans and you are with alot of people and in their thoughts and prayers. Keep resting and when it's time God will put you back on the ice to help you with what you do best. You are a great player and I'm so glad you are pushing through this. My thoughts are with you and your family, the entire FLorida Panthers Organization, and everyone in the NHL.

Stay Strong,
Love a Buffalo Fan!

Richard, Very glad to hear that you are stable and recovering. As a long NHL fan and Sabres season ticket holder, I was at the game last night. We were on the same end, but the opposite corner of the ice. We saw Ryan Miller waveing to the bench, and than saw you heading toward the bench. It was a very scarey site. Everyone in our section as well as the arena was in prayer for you. When the announcement was made that you were stable and on the way to the hospital, everyone stood and applauded. We all wish you a full and speedy recovery. You and your family will be in our prayers. Get Well soon.

Penny & Soto - Montreal, Quebec

It is funny how rivalries get put aside when something like this occurs. You are a great hockey player as exampled by just your presence in the NHL, but even a great NHL player. A freak accident like this makes all of us rec league players (and fathers of children rec league players) stop to appreciate the dynamics and risks associated with this game, and all contact sports. As a Lightning fan since the mid 90's, I would like to see almost anything to cause Florida and any Southeast division team lose to allow the Lightning to climb the standings, but no player and no fan ever wants to see someone hurt in that process. Sports give us the gift of athleticism and entertainment, and heros for children to aspire to be like. To see anyone go through any serious injury, especially a life threatening injury, affects us all.

My son is humbled, my wife is humbled, my teamates are humbled, and I am humbled by your experience last night. We all wish you a full recovery and pray that you return to the ice in full health soon. I live about 20 minutes from the Norfolk Scope where the Lightning's AHL affiliate plays, and I do hope that they too set aside rivalry and allow a moment to recognize your contributions to the great game of hockey and the traumatic event that occured last night and collectively draw the players, execs, and crowd to show support for you and your family during the next game.

Best wishes to you and your family, ya'll are in our prayers.
Brian - Newport News, Virginia

I've been a fan of your play since you first went to Montreal and was shocked to see the incident. Glad to hear that your surgery was succesful and that maybe this will start getting players to wear neck gaurds. I stopped wearing one after I had my thyroid removed because it irritated my scar but now I think I will wear it once again. Rest up and take your time healing; don't try to play hockey until you are positive it won't cause any damage. Good Luck.

Scott - Medford, New Jersey

I don't think anyone in the arena took a breath after that happened, it was so silent. We were all so happy to hear you are ok. I hope your recovery is quick and that we see you back on the ice soon. God Bless.

Lindsay - Buffalo, New York
Richard. Of all the hockey players I have ever met in person, you are perhaps the nicest. Most players act like they are meeting fans because they have too. You seemed like you enjoy it, and you really made an impression on both my wife and I. You really found your groove on our first line, and you helped wake Jokinen back up too. We are wishing for a full recovery and a speedy return to the Panthers. Your dazzling speed and experience brig so much to a team that needs it. I beleive you will be a major part of what finally brings our team a Stanley Cup! Get well soon so you can lace back up you jet pack skates!

Shane - Lake Worth, Florida
Even though I don't follow your team most of the time, I was absolutely horrified when I saw what had happened to you. I wish you a speedy, successful recovery, and you, your family and friends are all in my thoughts and prayers.

So great to hear you are doing well — all things considered.

If you haven't had a chance yet, review the video of the Buffalo fans reaction after the annoucement was made that you were stable and headed to the hospital.

A standing ovation for you! Made me feel good to be a player and a fan!!!

Best of luck to you and your family.

Richard,

I am praying that you have a full and speedy recovery from you recent accident. As an avid hockey fan, and someone that has played the game on and off for the past 40 years, I am always fearful of this happening. My son is in high school now, and has reached the age where neck protectors are no longer required. I still encourage him to wear it, but am not always successful. It is truly fortunate that the training staff and ambulance were so close and they could provide or your immediate care.

Get well soon! The Panthers play the Bruins twice more, maybe you can get that hat trick after all!

Regards,
Ken - Harrison, Maine USA

Dear Richard,

As a Capitals fan married to a Habs fan, you have continued to be a favorite in our household for a very long time. Thank you for your kindness and generosity while you were here in DC. I never got to thank you properly for signing the stick we have from your time in Montreal- I was so nervous about meeting you, and anxious because my husband and son had just stepped out for a minute (and subsequently missed meeting you) that I just clammed up. I also grew afraid that maybe you were upset about us having the stick since you seemed so surprised to see it. I wanted to let you know that the stick is a treasure in our home and I hope that it will make you feel better to know how much that meant to us.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this difficult time. We know how scary it is to come so close to losing someone dear and to not know what to expect next. It's wonderful that the Panthers organization could enable your family to be with you so far away from home. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope you will be able to make a return to the ice very soon. We were very excited for you when you got your recent hat trick and will continue to root for you wherever you are (except when you play against the Caps or Habs, of course ;) ) May you have great success in everything you pursue. Get well soon!

With Love,
The Thomas Family: Michèle, Michael, Gabriel, and Isabeau - Burke, Virginia
Although I am not a Panthers fan, anytime that happens to anyone there are no teams anymore but brs on the ice dealing with something serious. I am glad to know that you are doing well and recovering at Buffalo General.

I am a Sabres fan, but watching the game and what happened to you yesterday left me heartbroken. I had a dream last night that you played on Wednesday in your team's first home game after a 5-game road trip. Unfortunately this won't be the case, but I wish you the best recovery possible and I hope you can return to the ice as soon as possible to continue doing what you love.

Monica - Fredonia, NY

I wish you a speedy recovery Richard! I heard about the incident this morning on the radio, and as a hockey coach, have seen some close calls on the ice. It was hard to listen to them discribe it on the audio broadcast, but you are a battler, and have fought back from injuries before! It will be great to see you back on the ice!

Best Wishes!
Patrick - Maple Grove, Minnesota USA
Richard,

That was one of the most amazing displays of strength I have ever seen in sports. It would have been so mush easier to fall to the ice and let the training staff come to you. I truly think that by getting yourself to the bench may have saved your life. My thoughts go out to you, your family and the Florida Panthers orginization. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the ice soon.

Colin - Calgary, Canada
To Richard Zednik and family

Hockey fans everywhere are thinking of you. We know that your strength and spirit will carry you through this.

ET - Ottawa

Wow!! That was a close one Zed. My sons play minor hockey and there is always the scare of such a thing happening on the ice. But you reacted brilliantly by skating to your bench so quicky. We always knew you were fast on your skates and in your mind. Rest well and come back in time for the playoffs.

Alain - Montreal, Canada
Richard, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I hope to see you back on the ice soon.

God speed!

Tim - Chicago, Illinois
Hi Richard,
Glad to hear that things are stable and I'm sure you will be back to playing hockey soon! My prayers go out to you & your family. Up here in Minnesota, most youth programs now require neck guards, the kids hate them, but after getting used to them they stop complaining, I guess if it prevents 1 kid from getting cut in the neck it is worth it. I remember the day when most NHL players did not wear helmets, and when I was a young kid, some goalies did not wear masks, Gump Worsley was one of them (North Stars). That would be unheard of now, and maybe some day NHL players will be required to wear neck guards. Anyway good luck, hope to see you playing soon!

Rob Stansbury - Frmington, Minnesota
Richard,

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I have enjoyed watching you play since your time in Montreal.

Get Well Soon,

Brandon - Spokane, Washington
Richard, although a Buffalo Sabres fan, I couldn't go without wishing you the very best in your healing process and to tell you what a brave young man you are. Seeing you rush across that ice to get to your bench was such an amazing sight. I am a 58 year old grama who admires the strengh and heart of the National Hockey League players but I don't know really how many could have gotten up and skated off the ice. Our prayers are with you and your family and get healthy soon.

Sincerely,
Linda Dingman - Fairport, New York USA

Well Richard...I have watched hockey all my life and frankly, you have the heart of a hockey player. The image on the telivision was shocking, but I have hope that you will fight through it. I recall the same type of injury happening to a buffalo goalie, a number of years ago. I am not a florida fan at heart, but I do love the game and respect each individual that has made it as far as you have. God bless you and your family, my prayers are with you. I doubt you will get this message but I believe it is the thought that counts. The tragic sport of hockey, how we all love it. Take care of yourself, you can get through this and I hope when this is over and you hav recovered. That you and your wife can take a trip to hawaii or some place beautiful and relax. You will both need it. My br had a terrible injury placed on him, but he has recovered and thank god he is still alive. You will be fine, buffalo is a great city with a few bad omens sitting on it. But take care of yourself, god bless you.

Nick - London, Canada
I am still a little shook up by the incident and can't even begin to imagine how you, your wife, family, and teammates must feel. You are a phenomenal player, and even in this situation, you stayed on your feet the whole time. I hope this incident won't keep you away from the ice for too long. The NHL won't be the same with you gone. I want to wish you a speedy recovery, and I'm thankful that you are alright.

Kimberly - Rochester, New York

Caps fan here. I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but this was a lot like Clint Malarchuk's injury -- both ex-Capitals, with the Sabres involved. Freaky coincidence.

Good player, good man, good luck.

All the best to you,
Jon - Orange, California
Dear Richard,

I am a huge Bruins fan but I know how it is to see a player get hurt badly like Patrice Bergeron. I saw both of your goals against us and I can't lie they were both insane. Especially the one you batted right out of the air. So good luck recovering because I want to see you score a lot more of those goals. (not against Boston though)

Good Luck Recovering!!

Mike - Kingston, Massachusetts
Dear Mr. Richard:

Doug - Commack, NY
I wish you and your family the best through this period. I watched the game last night and hoped and prayed that you would be ok. Buffalo has great success in helping atheletes thru these types of unfortunate events. just ask Kevin Garret ( Buffalo Bills), who I believe had treatment developed from a South Florida doctor, who saved his life. And also ask Clint Malarchuck, a Goalie from the Sabres , who sustained a very similair injury as yours.

Best Wishes
Mark - Tampa, Florida
A fan of all sports and the players that make them possible.

Hello Richard,
I play junior hockey in Newfoundland and I saw your incident lastnight, I hope you are feeling strong and healthy and are able to make a speedy recovery. All the best.

Richard,
Im a Tornoto maple leafs fan but I wish you all the best in your recovery, I am emotionally upset to hear what happend to you. If anything happens to a player in the NHL I always like to know if they are OK cuz I care for everyone, But I hope you get better soon, I think every body in the world wants you to get better from what happen.

I hope Richard gets better and is able to get back to hockey. I was at that game because I am a sabres fan and when I seen what happened I was shocked. God Bless You,
Beth Langevin aka "Panthergal" - Jacksonville, Arkansas

May God continue to watch over you and your family as you recover from this amazing incident. As an avid hockey fan, I was still feeling the "high" of Buffalo taking the lead in the game when you were struck. Suddenly, hockey seemed like the least important thing in the world.

May you quickly recover, and suffer no ill effects from this injury. Your ability to maintain your wits and get off the ice as quickly as you did is a testiment to your inner strength.

God bless you, your family, and everyone involved in this unfortunately accident. While I'm sure it may not feel it right now, you are a truly lucky man....

Sharon - Rochester, New York
Mr Zednick....i was so relieved to hear that you are ok in hospital in Buffalo sir....the accident last night was truly horfifying to watch on TV....i absolutely felt sick that you had to go through that ordeal....my family is so glad you are going to recover....all of our best to you Richard and your family....you are a great hockey player...come back soon....

Zednik,
I being a trainer for a hockey team myself, can only wish you the best of wishes for the quickest recovery and return to the game. As I watched what happened, and after watching it multiple times on replay I could only watch in horror as that is the last thing as a trainer you want to have to experience. I have to give you props on having the mind in that situation and not collapse on the ice as many would. It would be a great thing for you to promote the use of neckgaurds regardless of the age or level of the player because many teams are not equipped to deal with a traumatic event such as this. Again best wishes to you

Kaitlyn - Oakville, Canada
Richard,

I'm hoping your recovery will be quick and complete. Your fan since you were a Portland Winter Hawk,

Cindi - Vancouver, Washington
Richard, Get well soon. I hope you make a full recovery.

John - Newport Beach, California
Richard,

I seriously hope you have an opportunity to read this message and isnt waved through. You dont know what you have until its gone. Having you on the team is one of the best things thats happened to the Panthers in the many years they have been around. Seeing you play is a joy, but you just dont truly grasp ahold of what kind of talent a player has until something drastic happens to them, alot of the times anyways. As sad as it sounds, its true. My thoughts and prayers are going out to you, and I honestly hope you get better fast and that you make it back to a healthy Zednik asap. You are a true inspiration to me, the fans, and your teamates. Dont fear, just look forward the future and forward to getting better, we all know you have it in you. Why did this have to happen on your hot streak? haha, im just kidding! Best wishes to you Mr. Zednik

Lee - Davenport, Florida
Get well soon Richard.

Mr. Zednik,
First and foremost let me wish you a speedy recovery. I was watching the game at home and as a Medic in the US Army, I knew right away what going on. I have seen lacerated Carotid Arteries and/or Jugular veins, let's just say a few times and rarely did the people I have seen them on live to talk about it. I was amazed that you had the presents of mind to get your hand there and put pressure and get to the bench. I hope the NHL is teaching all players to do this because that 5-6 seconds can certainly be the difference between making it and not. You showed amazing bravery, as some people may have just laid there and waited for help which can make the situation worse. You knew the outcome would be determined by your actions and you took matters into your own hands. Thank you for what you do as an athlete in providing high class entertainment. I wish you the best and hope nothing such as this happens to you or anyone else ever again. Again, get well soon and I look forward to seeing you play great hockey again.

SSG Harry Doremus, MEDIC - Ft. Jackson, South Carolina

Your health and recovery is in my thoughts and prayers. Get well soon. God Bless you.

Richard,
I wish you a speedy recovery. You are still to this day one of my all-time favorite Portland Winter Hawks. You were quite the nice young man when in Portland, and you very sweetly posed for pictures with my teenaged daughter. She still has those pictures and remembers that night fondly.
Best wishes, and get back on the ice soon!

Much Love,
Barbara Gordon - Vancouver, Washington

Hey Richard,

My heart stopped when I was watching the clip, I tell you flash backs of my sons playing hockey came to my mind and the safety of the game, this is something hard to witness, let alone to go through. I've always enjoyed watching you play in our Canadians uniform and will always enjoy watching you play no matter where you are. I wish you a speedy recovery, my prayers are with you and the family and I will definitely see you on the ice playing again.

David - Montreal, Quebec
What happened last night was by far the most scared I've been since watching hockey since 1998. You were very brave and alert to have covered your neck and raced over to the bench on instinct. It probably saved your life!

From myself and the New York Rangers fans and family, we wish you a speedy recovery!

Be safe.
Matt - Phoenix, Arizona
Hi Richard. Just wanted to say I was at the sabres game years ago when Clint Malarchuck had his neck cut and I hoped to never see that happen again. So you could imagine to my horror watching the hockey game with my kids and the same thing happens to you. My only thought was dear God let you be alright. I used to live in Buffalo and I used to be a paramedic there so I know what kind of top quality care you received. I pray you make a full recovery and are back out there competing against our Buffalo Sabres. God bless.

Michael Lang - Baltimore, Maryland

I know that you were on the Habs before and just recently you were a huge factor in beating the Bruins, but it just so upsetting seeing a talented player go down. I thought things couldn't get worse after the hit on Patrice Bergeron, but then this happens. My thoughts and prayers are out to you and your family.

Brian - Boston, Massachusetts

Though I am a die-hard Rangers fan, I have always had respect for hard-working players, no matter what team they are on, and when someone gets hurt, the jersey no longer matters. As a fan of hockey in general, I pray for you to make a speedy recovery, and show the world just how incredibly tough NHL players are, and how you guys are truly the best athletes in the world.

Hello Richard,

I was watching last night's game on the Center Ice package, and I was shocked to see your injury take place.

Thank God that you had the presence of mind to apply direct pressure to your wound immediately, and that you got to the player's bench right away.

We were praying that you would get the medical help you needed quickly enough to save your life, and it appears that our prayers were answered.

I hope that you are well enough soon to return home to your family.

Our best wishes to you for a speedy and complete recovery!

To Richard and his family,

My prayers are with you. For every hockey player and fan, this is a very frightening injury to experience. I can't believe you had enough presence of mind to skate to the bench!

I wish you the best. Hope to see you on the ice soon!

Peggy - Ann Arbor, Michigan
Dear Richard--

Though we are in Connecticut, we have followed the Panthers for the last 5 years or so, as there are a number of former Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL team for the Islanders) who did play for our local team . . . Branislaw Mezei, Juraj Kolnik, and Eric Godard. We watch as many Panthers games as we can catch on TV, and were devastated to see the unfortunate and accidental injury. My husband and I hope and pray for your full recovery, that you are able to regain your strength and continue to help your team and do well in your career. May God bless you and your family, and know that there are a lot of good wishes heading your way from all over the world!

Debbie - Trumbull, Connecticut
My families (and Sabres fans around the world) thought's and prayers are with you and your family Mr. Zednick! We pray for a quick recovery, and hope to see you back in the lineup when your Panther's are in this years playoffs!

I remember all the get well cards I received (no e-mail in 1975) after I had my neck cut by a skate while playing Junior hockey. My Dad invented the original neck guard and I continue to play today. May you have a speedy recovery, and I look forward to seeing you back on the ice soon.

Kim Crouch - Whitby, Canada
Seeing you bleeding last night brought back such terrible memories for me. I was there the night Clint Malarchuk was cut in the neck. I watched in horror then just as I did last night with you. In the days, weeks, and months that followed, Clint regained his energy and was able to make a full recovery. I believe this is the road you will take. I have watched you during your career from the beginning with the Caps to being an every day player with the Habs. In LA we had heard rumors that you might be traded to the Kings, I was one that was hoping those rumors were true, but unfortunately for me, you went to the Panthers. You are a tremendous asset to the team. I know your wife must be going through a so many emotions right now. I believe everything happens for a reason, even terrible things. It is very hard to think about that now because of the pain and frustration. The reason for this terrible event may not be revealed immediately, but it will have a purpose. My thoughts, prayers, and well wishes are with you, your wife, and entire family as you make this recovery. I know you will be playing again as soon as you are able, and I for one will be right there to cheer for you. I will also pray that you have the best available medical team treating you and God guide's them in able to help you in the most beneficial way. Take care and here is wishing you back on the ice very soon.

Cathy Brown - Highland, California

Ian - Burke, Virginia
Like a lot of Sabres fans across this great hockey nation of ours I tuned in Sunday, February the 10th to watch the boys battle for a much needed win against your Panthers team. As my son and I were cheering our team on to what looked like a hard fought way to a victory, all the air in the room was suddenly sucked out and we instantly felt the shock and disbelief of witnessing your injury. For my entire life I have felt a wide range of emotions while watching sports and in being a Buffalo Sabres and a Buffalo Bills fan I thought I had felt it all. That is until I witnessed your accidental injury. It seemed like the whole hockey world stood still, breathless and shocked, as we awaited a word on your status. When they made the announcement that you were stabilized and heading to the hospital it was then that my son and I both wiped our eyes dry. I am 43, my son is 17 and no matter the age of any hockey fan we feel for you and wish you a speedy recovery. You are in our hockey prayers!

Michael - Fontana, California

Richard,
As, possibly, the only Florida Panthers fan in Boston, I would like to extend my best wishes to you and your family during your recovery from last nights accident. Although you may not realize it, you are in the thoughts and prayers of many people across the world, never mind the country. While your presence on the ice will be missed in the short run, I can't tell you how happy I am that your prognosis is a good one. I would also like to thank you for the 2 goals on Saturday against the Bruins. It being my birthday weekend, you gave me the best present of all, a Panthers win!!!

Take Care #20,
Andrew - Boston, Massachusetts

As horribly frightened as I was for you, I cannot even begin to imagine how incredibly scary this must have been for you and your family. After what seemed an eternity, I was so relieved and absolutely ecstatic at the news that you were in stable condition. Best wishes to you for a full recovery and peace of mind and heart for you and your loved ones.

Morgan Keller - Portland, Oregon
I remember his days with the Caps, a tremendously talented and capable player who was a joy to watch.

I'm always fond of ex-Capitals, especially those who seem to hit it big the season they leave the team.

Best of luck to you, EVERYBODY'S rooting for you Zeddy!
