Hey Richard,
That was a horrible event that took place on the ice, it was a big relief when they said you were in stable condition. I just hope that you have a speedy recovery and best wishes to you and your family.

Get well my friend. I am from Buffalo and I work at the sportstalk radio station that carries the Sabres play-by-play and when I was at the game - I witnessed what had happenned and my friends and I in our suite immediately started praying for you.

Thank God you are alive and in stable condition. We are passionate sportsfans in Buffalo - but nothing is more important than someone's health and well-being - and yours was a priority last night.

Our entire City (Buffalo)is think about you and your family and pray for your quick recovery.

God Bless.

Richard,

I'm a Bruins fan, but during a time like this, team allegiance makes no difference. I'm a hockey fan first & foremost today. And along with MANY hockey fans around the world, I want to wish you all the best in your recovery. Take it one day at a time. You're a credit to the game. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Get Well Soon.

Sincerely,
Sean Carragher - Boston, MA
Richard,
I hope you recover quickly. Anytime you are out on the ice, you create a scoring chance, a great rush up the ice, or just a phenomenal play in general. I don't get to see many games on TV, but when I do, you are one of my favorite players to watch. Keep you chin up, and know that you have fans in every state.

Christina - Denver , Colorado

Dray - Thompson, Manitoba, Canada
Richard,

From everyone in the U.S. and across the globe, know that you are in our prayers. From the moment that news came about of your injury and until know and to the time where you have fully recovered, know that you are in all of our prayers. The fact you were able to remain so calm during this whole ordeal is utterly unbelievable. Seeing someone go through this terrifying situation is something no one wants to see or even hear about, but when you are able to persevere through all of this and get back to doing what you love then take solace in knowing that you have the heart and will-power that men and women only wish that they could imagine. Get well soon and know that everyone in the hockey world and beyond hopes to see #20 back out on that ice in the very near future.

Trey - Detroit, Michigan
Richard,

The game is just a game. The life is all what really matters.

I watched you when you were on the habs. You were my favorite player on that team and you continue to be a player I cheer for no matter where you are. I wish you the best of luck and a full, quick recovery. I pray you play again because you are special on the ice.

Nick - Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

Its awesome to hear you are going to recover, seeing that was pretty intense.
Know that everyone has put down their team loyalty as you recover. If you look at every teams message board, they are all filled with concern.
A few Days ago you single handedly destroyed my Toronto maple leafs, and you best get better so that you can try and do that again.

Stay strong! Good luck!

Ryan - Guelph, Canada
Dear Richard,

I am unsure of how to say this, but as a huge hockey fan since birth and skating since i could walk, i have nothing but the greatest respect for then NHL and the players that put their bodies on the line daily/nightly. I feel a great sigh of relief that the medical staff were able to stablize your condition. For the game to loose a player of your caliber would be a great loss felt throughout the entire hockey community not just the NHL but the world.

I wish you the best in your recovery and look forward to seeing your number back on the Panthers bench soon.

Kyle - Ottawa, Canada

Richard,
We are praying for you, pulling for you, and sending you strength in this time of trial and healing. While hockey is so unimportant in the grand scheme of things, it sadly takes events like this to remind us of that. Your courage and ability to quickly react yesterday is inspiring and amazing.

Get well, my br. We look forward to you getting back on the ice, not because we want to see hockey, but because it will symbolize the strength and resilience of the human spirit, again.

From a Sharks fan, a fan of hockey players, but more so a huge fan of people, may your time in the hospital be short and your life (and career) be long and meaningful.

With Love & Prayer,
Jimmy Dean Freeman - Los Angeles, California

I think it is safe to say that millions of hockey fans the world over reacted with shock to your injury.

We all realise that the importance of a hockey game, any hockey game, does not come close to the importance of a life.

I worried for your family, but am so glad to hear that your own calm and intelligent reaction, as well as the swift reaction of trainers and doctors, ensured your safety.

I know that there are millions of hockey fans hoping to see you back on the ice, and I am sure that you will make a triumphant return.

Mostly though, we are just thankful that you are okay, and anxious to see you walk out of hospital.

Get well soon.

I would like to commend you on not panicking in your situation Saturday and quickly going over to the bench. I saw the video and could tell you were full of fear. I would think not many people would have been as alert and calm to do that. I can't imagine how that must have felt. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm very sorry it happened to you. I hear you're in stable condition and I would like you to know I'm praying for you and your family. Take care and get well soon.

God Bless,
Jeffrey - Chesapeake, Virginia
Dear Richard,
I've been a fan of yours since you bounced back from the Mclaren hit several years ago with a fantastic season in Montreal, and I'm sure you'll find the strength to overcome the physical and mental struggles ahead of you with as much success. Get well Zed. You were awesome to watch when you wore a Habs jersey. It's just scary to see these things happen since it brings back awful memories of what happened to Clint Malarchuk, Jiri Fischer and Trent McCleary. We can't deny that the NHL has got to have one of the best, if not the best, medical staff in all sports.

Hope to see you play soon again.

Erik - Dorval, Canada
On Sunday afternoon I came home from the Penguins game elated that they had beaten the Flyers and held 1st place. I settled in that night to watch the Florida/Buffalo game on TV. I watched in tears at what happened to you on the ice. All of the hockey competitiveness in me was gone as all I could think of was that a player was badly hurt. I prayed immediately for you because it looked bad. When I got up this morning I went online to see if there were any updates on your condition. The reports looked good. Please know that a lot of people are praying for you. Get better soon.

Lorri - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
No words can rally express how your injury has taken us aback - made us look at our mortality. My overwhelming feeling is one of awe at your bravery -skating off that ice - saving your own life- that will stay with me forever- you are what i hope my own children will be one day

Hey Rich, I saw what happened and I freaked out. I have been a Zedhead for many years, since I met you at Incredible Ice after a practice when you were with the Capitals. I am glad to hear that everything has been going good at the Buffalo hospital. This is a terrible time for this tragedy, since the Panthers are so close to a playoff spot, and since you have been on fire lately. I am a huge Bruins fan (originally from New England) and you tore them up a couple days ago!! Well even though I am a Bruins fan I am also a big Panthers fan, and I hope you get healthy and enjoy your time with your family while you recover. Take care.

Rich - Coral Springs, Florida
G

I am gald that you put pressure on the cut right away with your hand. If that reaction was just instinct or you just had the right state of mind to do so... I think you set a good example of how to react to this sort of situation.

The NHL probably teaches its players to do what you did, but people everywhere, including the NHL, should be remided to do what you did. This is what I would have done (exactly what you would have done from what i saw).

- stay calm so your heart is as relaxed as possible. If you can't stay calm because of the pure shock, someone else should calm you down
- put pressure on the area. Do this until someone else can put pressure on that area so you can stay as calm and relaxed as possible
- get to hospital (self explanitory, but if you can not, anywhere that can treat the problem until you can)
- do all this as fast and quick as possible, at the same time keep calm and relaxed as possibe.

I hope you get well soon.

Hossein - Toronto, Canada

Richard,

I saw your injury this mornng on the highlight reel and it brought back vivid memories. I was playing in goal a few years back when an opponemt was cut badly on the neck by a skate during a pile-up in front of my net. Luckily pressure was immediately applied to his neck with one of my defenseman's jerseys and that save his life. Your quick thinking to get to the bench saved valuable seconds.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and I wish you a speedy recovery (even though you beat my Leafs 8-0 last week)!! Joking of course. Get well soon and get back to thew game you love.

Regards

Richard,

My girls and I are Colorado Avalanche fans but when we were watching the highlights last night I must say our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May your recovery be swift and complete and your mental game come back strong and powerful.

You are amazing and we want to watch you skate again. So please take good care of yourself.

The Bolyard Girls - Lafayette, Colorado
Hey Richard,
I was on letsgowings.com last night pretty pissed off after a terrible call by O'Halloran disallowed a goal when I saw the thread topic "Zednik Cut By Teammate's Skate," and my heart just dropped. I read the thread immediately and then found out that you were okay, and as a hockey fan first and foremost and a Red Wings fan secondly, I have to say, I'm really glad that you had the instinct to immediately skate to the bench. That most likely saved your life. I mean, it's not like the sport could use any more bad press as it is, you know?
Get well ASAP!

Jonathan - Kalamazoo, Michigan
I am a huge hockey fan and i just wanted to wish you the best.

Jesse - Massapequa, New York
What happened out there was one of the scariest things I have ever seen during an NHL game. And although it was hard to watch the Panthers beat the Bruins just a few days ago, I would take that a hundred times over again, rather than have something like this happen to any player. I wish you the quickest of recoveries & hope to see you out there for the next time we play you!
All the best <3

Jaclyn - Troy, New York
Get well soon Mr. Zednik. I hope your back on the ice soon. I was looking forward to seeing you play aginst my Minnesota Wild. I will put you in my prayers.
Yours in Hockey

Dear Rišo,
we wish you all the best and quickly return on the ice.

Eduard and Jana - Zvolen, Slovakia
You are an amazing human being and athlete. To have the instincts and ability to react so quickly was amazing. As a south florida sports fan, and Panthers Fan, many often do not appreciate the speed and majesty of this sport and its athletes.

The prayers of my family are with you and your family and we send you our best wishes for a speedy recovery. In our fast pace world of instant gratification, unfortunately it takes moments like these to remind us how quickly everything we hold dear can be taken away from us. For me each time I hear the name ZEDNIK I will remember not just this horrible incient, or your amazing reaction...but the preciousness of life. I am kissing my wife and baby boy right now. Get well soon Mr. Zednik. We hope to be at the airport this weekend to cheer and welcome you home.

Sean - Miami, Florida

Dear Mr. Zhednik,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope you're able to make a quick and speedy recovery. Since my team is in the Western Conference, I don't get to see you play much, but I've seen you in the playoffs when you played for the Islanders and I always enjoyed watching you. My favourite player (Peter Budaj) is from your hometown, and because of him, I've become interested in Slovakia and I enjoy following it's players.

Best wishes,
Sara Campbell - Northglenn, Colorado

Hi Richard,

Man that was scary. From what I hear they took good care of you and for that we are all thankful. Get well soon my friend. I hope you believe laughter is the best medicine. I truly am glad you are going to be ok and I know how serious this was but I do have to ask… the skate did not cut any of your hair off did it? Love the locks Zed! Hope to see you on the ice soon.

James - Burlington, Canada

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family here in Buffalo. I'm sure I can speak for many of Sabres fans here, when I say the result of Sundays game meant nothing compared to your health.
Good luck to you, your family, and the Florida Panthers!

Karen & Mark - Buffalo, New York

Mary Lazaridis - Toronto, Canada
Hi Richard,

My girlfriend and I were horrified when we found out about your accident. We have been following you since you played with the Capitals, where we saw you play a lot. Actually, you were our favorite Capital player. When you were traded by the Capitals we were very upset. I played ice hockey so I know the game. I saw that you hustled EVERY second you played and I saw that you were given a raw deal. The cap management said that they thought that you lost a little. I couldn't disagree more, and you are proving me right as you are doing very well with the Panthers. Please know that you are in our thoughts every second of every day.

Sincerely,

Ken Greenberg & Kim Sutphin - Ashburn, Virgina USA
Riso, We wish you all the best and speedy recovery. Get well soon! best wishes
