Hi Richard,

We were watching the Canucks/Blackhawks game when the shocking tragedy of your injury was shown. What a relief to know you are okay and you had the great presence of mind to go to the bench right away. My wife and I send you the very best of wishes and I want to thank you for coming to North America to play this wonderful game of hockey, and contributing to our hockey pleasure. I just wish I could see you in a Vancouver uniform as we can use a player like yourself who has had 5 goals & 3 assists this past week!! You have been on a tear and I hope you have a very speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Get well, and the very best of good luck to you in your hockey career. We look forward to seeing you back on the ice soon!!

Kindest regards,

Wayne & Jordie Ness - Victoria, B.C., Canada

Dear Richard, you are a great player and watching that happen to you at the game (I was on vacation) scared me. I hoped that you were ok. And still hope that. They say you are so that makes me happy. When you play again (if you do) I know that you will be better, because you have more knowledge to the game. I am just a tennager so I don't know if you'll care about my message, but my family and I send you our thoughts and prayers. I'll always check to see if you'r alright.

From one of your biggest fans,
Andrew - Chicago, Illinois

Hey Richard,
When I first heard about the incident in Sunday nights game I lose my breath. I couldn't believe such an unfortunate occurance could happen. As a hockey fan you get used to high sticks, blocked shots and etc. It shocked me beyond any comprehendible belief when I actually saw footage of what happened. Even though I have rooted against you as an opponent I still respect you as a hockey player. I sincerely pray for your recovery and hopefully to see you back on the ice when your ready
My heart goes out to you and your family

Kevin - Athens, Ohio
Dear Zeddy,

I watched your game last night and it was terrifing to see you get cut like that. Even though I am a Pittsburgh and a Coyotes fan, in my book you are very important. I was so concerned when I saw you get cut it was so scary. My whole family and I was nervous. I hope you get to play hockey some more in your career. Please get well and heal up fast so you can get back on that ice. I bet you that your team mates were so worried about you. If your family was watching the game they would be rushing down to Buffalo, New York. My family and I are so glad to see that you are safe and healing. I feel so bad for you. That was the scariest thing I ever saw in hockey history. Hopfully you can't wait to see your team mates and your coaches. You are so lucky to get to a hospital in time. I hope your team, coaches, your family, and friends come to see you. I hope your neck does not hurt as bad as last night's game, your are a good hockey player.

I hope you get well soon,
Cam - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Want to wish you the best. God Bless you. Get wll soon, the cats need you.

Kenneth - Miami, Florida

I just wanted to say what an incredible presence of mind you showed after the accident to put pressure on the cut and get yourself to your bench and your trainer. It is something I hope we never see again in the NHL, but your display of toughness, heart and composure will never be forgotten. Best wishes to you and your family for a quick and healthy recovery.

Richard,

I was watching the Sabres - Panthers game last night and saw your accident. It is the second time I've been watching a Sabres game when an incident involving a skate and a players neck occurred. You were brilliant to head straight to the bench.

My family and I are huge Sabres fans and we just want to say on behalf of all Sabres fans, all hockey fans, and all Western New Yorkers:

Our thoughts are with you, get well soon!

Josh - Upton, New York
Glad to hear that you are doing well. I remember you from when you played for the Portland Pirates. Hope you continue to improve and are back on your skates again soon.

Shawnna - North Yarmouth , Maine
Zed, its good to see that you are recovering well from such a freak accident. Take it easy, and know that it is a good thing and a blessing when you can still feel your pulse in the neck area. I always enjoy watching you play, both with the Habs and now with the Panthers. Keep fighting and stay strong !!!

Jose - Ponce, Puerto Rico
From the State of Hockey, I extend my best and most sincere wishes to you and all of your family. Suffering a skate cut has been one of my biggest fears growing up playing hockey, and to see it happen, one can only imagine the fear that must have been going through your mind at that moment. Myself, and I am sure the rest of Minnesota, would like to extend our best wishes to you and your family. Hope to see you back on the ice soon.

Sincerest wishes from the State of Hockey

Benjamin - Maplewood, Minnesota of America

Kevin - Montreal, Canada
Dear Mr. Zednik,

I was so sorry to hear what happened -- I hope you have a quick recovery. It was wonderful to have you in Washington again last year, and just like after the playoffs in 2002, I'm sure you'll bounce right back. The NHL needs players like you!

Nicholas - Washington, D.C., District of Columbia
As a life long hockey fan, player, and coach my deepest concern, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and your family. We can teach "heads up hockey" and how to position yourself along the end boards to try and prevent serious injury. However; as a coach and player it is impossible to train on how to respond to an injury such as yours. Your actions on the ice in the moments after your injury are an inspration and they are something that I will never forget. I wish you a quick and speedy recovery and look forward to your return to an NHL ice surface.

Thoughts and Prayers.

Herman Manzanares III - Los Alamos, New Mexico
Wishing you a speedy recovery. The John Carroll University Club Hockey team's prayers are with you.

Greetings Mr. Zednik:

My heart goes out to you and your family during this difficult time. I have been a huge fan of yours since you joined the Canadiens and remember the last serious injury you sustained at the hands of Kyle McLaren in the playoffs. You have always been a joy to watch and I wish you a speedy recovery and a successful return to the ice. It was a horrific accident and I'm very thankful that you seem to be recovering although I can imagine that there may be a long road ahead both physically and emotionally. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. Like everyone else I was horrified to see your accident while watching the game and I'm glad you had the presence of mind to skate to the bench and get help. At that point, the game didn't even matter any more, all anybody cared about was your well-being. Hang in there, man. I know you'll be better and back on the ice in no time!

Mark - Niagara Falls, Canada
Best Wishes Richard!

Brandon - Vancouver, Canada
Hey Richard, first Mclaren and now this. The hockey gods must really have it out for you. Anyway, get well soon and strap this team on your back and take them to the finals just as you did in 1998. Your are an offensive beast and it's gonna take a little more than Olli Jokinen performing some sweet chin music to slow you down.

Pavol - St. Paul, Minnesota
Hope you are doing well, look forward to seeing you back on the ice soon, Thanks Joe

I have been a fan of yours since you played for the Habs. (I was sorry to see you go, you rocked the ice with Koivo and Kovalev)I was in total shock when I saw the play from last nights game. Richard,

We are praying for your quick recovery. I am a 13 game package holder and have admired the grit and hustle that you give out on every shift. I played hockey including juniors and have never seen such an unfortunate injury. It really gave all of us a tremendous scare. I am glad and thrilled to hear the positive reports that comming from the media as to your condition.

You are a true sportsman and a great competetor and I know that the entire organization, all the players and every fan are behind you 100%. You will be missed and I hope you can return soon.

I saw the video of you on YouTube and was seriously shocked. When most people think of hockey injuries, they think of bloody noses, broken shoulders, black eyes and at most an ankle laceration. It's scary stuff knowing a player could get hurt like you did. Hope you feel better soon and get back on the ice as soon as possible. Get well soon, bro. =]

God Bless
And Sincerley Yours,

Dear Richard,

One second in our short life can change it forever. We always have min. 2 ways to choose what we will do and I am really happy you have been fighting for your life in that crucial second! I sympathize with you, maybe because I am from Zvolen and I hold my hand for you for a long time. Remember that when the sun shines in your soul your life will be really happy and full of love. Then you will able to give your love to the people around you, or maybe even to strangers who have never met you but who think of you like me in your hard time... a lot of "strong" energy not only for you.. but for your family too.

I wish you'll be back soon.

Philippe - Joue-les-Tours, France
Hi Richard,

Welcome back to South Florida! I am praying for you and sending you many good thoughts in your recovery. I hope all the love and support from fans and s has been helpful to you during this time. This was nothing but a fluke accident. I know you'd rather not think about the incident now, and I'm sure Olli would have wanted to be in a different spot on the ice. I know you're going to be back on the ice soon.

As a former member of the Panthers' staff in the 1990's, this incident hit home with me, as the team continues to be close to my heart, even though I've been living in California the last 10 years. I am also originally from Montreal, and I enjoyed watching you play for the Habs and beat the Bruins in the playoffs with your spectacular play. How about the goals you scored in the freezing cold outdoor game vs Edmonton? Special times.

You are an inspiration for all of us. You're an absolute sparkplug for the Panthers, and you're just what they need.
Please get better soon and I look forward to seeing you lock up the Southeast Division come April. Or even late March!

Good luck and best wishes!

Greg Hanessian - Irvine, California
1993-1997 Panthers season ticket sales manager

Richard,
As I watched the game live on television last evening I saw the events that transpired as it happened. Never in my life have I been so concerned for an human nor have I ever been frozen in my seat. Richard, just so you know what you mean to your fans, for this Caps family it will be one of those "I'll always remember what I was doing when I heard" moments. My daughter had just switched to the game during the stoppage and she ran out and yelled "Something happened to Zednick!" That's all we knew so or the next 10 minutes four of us were switching channels and checking the Internet to find out what happened. When they announced you were in stable condition we stood up like the Buffalo fans. Now we're looking forward to doing it again the next time you play at Verizon...hope it's very soon!

John - Fairfax Station, VA, Virginia
Hey Zed, hope your doing ok. Everyone in South Florida and around the world are thinking about you. This is one of those times when you need to worry about yourself before worrying about the game. Take it easy and come back only if/when your ready.

Our prayers are with you, your family, and the Florida Panthers.

Get well soon Richard.

Marc - Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Richard, i hope you get better. Dont let this scare you or affect your remarkable play.. because you are one of a kind.. even though you scored 3 goals against my team (toronto maple leafs) I forgive you ! :) Get well! I hope everything will work out for you<33

Get well soon, like many who are posting here, I am not a Florida fan....actually I am a Bruins fan and wish you didn't score those two goals the night! But I am however a Portland Pirates fan, and always follow the players we had in Portland and like to see them do well, and it's scary to see things like what happened last night. It was such a releif to hear that you were in stable condition, and I wish you a quick and speedy recovery!!! Hope to see you back on the ice soon!

Jeremy Mixer - Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Hello Richard.i'm very glad to hear that your doing alright.Obviously i'm 1 of thonds of hockey fans who have seen and heard what happened to you. As a fellow hockey player , I can sort of relate to very drastic hockey injuries. I'll keep this short as i'm sure you have alot of emails to read,,,I am 100% in favor of what olli said about shutting down that game, althought as a fellow player , I'm sure you would have said to the boys not to lose just because I'm gone. As far as I'm concerned, Mr. Campbell and especially Mr. Bettman should have shut that game down immediatly. Yes we all prepare ourselves mentally to give 120% every time we step on the ice , but it's still just a game in comparison to your life. Again I'm very happy to hear that you will be ok , and my thoughts and prayers are there for you and your wife , and best wishes on a speedy recovery and getting back on the pond real soon.

Steve - Calgary, Canada
Richard,
I wish you a speedy recovery. You and your family are in my prayers. Get well soon. We all hope you can be back out on the ice again soon.

Stephan - Brandon, Canada
Hey I saw your bump and it might not have felt very well. If you didn't see all the Sabres fans were clapping after you left because you acted like the tough man you are. Nathan Horton tried to tie the game but the Sabres scored one more. Hope you feel better and have a wonderful life with no injuries.

Nick - Weston, Florida
Mr. Zednik,

I wish you and your family the best and hope for a full recovery. I've seen you play many nights, including last night in person and hope to see you on the ice fully recovered soon.

Hi Richard,
I am your countryman from Slovakia. All at home, we are keeping fingers crossed to you and we believe that you will be ok too erly. I read about you on the Internet and than I saw this miserable moment on TV. It was awful look. But I know that you are very strong man and you will play hockey very soon. I am looking forward to your next goals for Panthers or Slovak representation. We Slovaks are with you and think of you.

One massage for Richard's wife Jesica:
Jesica don't wory. Slovaks are strong men and Richard is one of them. Already He showed this on the sheet. We are proud of his.

Richard, thank you therefor that you are.

?ubomir - Ruzomberok, Slovakia
Richard,

I was one of the people at the game 4 rows away from the glass in the area you were at when you got struck by the skate. the whole area in the stands was like OH GOD! And as silence fell over the building- no matter what team you rooted for (even when im a Sabre Fan) all you can do is think about what happened and at that point I can speak for a lot of fans here in Buffalo and tell you that we all admire your efforts to make it to the bench, I don't know how you did it. I seen a few important people hop the railings behind the Sabre bench and run down the tunnel to assist you. it was hard to finish watching that game as im sure it was for any player on the ice to skate to the final buzzer The score of the game at that point did not matter. It's good to hear that you will pull through and return to action soon. I applaud your courage as well as everyone from both sides of the benches. Get well soon and make your return soon!

Jay - Buffalo, New York
Hope you have a speedy recovery and you're back on the ice soon!

Adam - Milton, Canada

Hockey is both a beautiful dance and an extremely dangerous game. This Devils fan hopes to see you dance in New Jersey in the not to distant future. The quickest of recoveries.

God bless,
Andy - New York, New York
As a hockey mom and coach, you never want to see this happen, which is why kids wear neckguards! Kudos to the trainers and staff at the "rink" for all their quick thinking and to you too Richard for having the guts to get yourself over to the bench. What a story of true hockey courage. I know my team roots for you and your recovery. You'll be back!!!

Heidi - Edmonton, Canada

Hey Richard,

It's always a sad moment in sports history when an accident occurs. I witnessed the injury, and was shocked. However, as soon as they said you were in stable condition relief came over me. Hopefully you will be back on the ice before you know it, and also that you can play without the fear of a rare accident like this occurring again.

Best Regards,
Travis Watson - Crossville, Tennessee

Mickie - Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
From what little it means coming from a Flyers fan hundreds of miles away, my best to you on your recovery. Hopefully, you will be able to put all of this behind you and quickly return to the game none the worse for wear.

Your injury truely reminds us of what is important in life.... the well being of family. That was so apparent after the injury occurred and how little a win and loss meant when the fate of a family member is in question.

Please take comfort in how much fans, players, trainers, doctors and strangers care for you.

God bless.
Dave - Marlton, New Jersey

Great to hear you are doing better. I hope you have a speedy recovery and back on the ice soon.

Ryan - Welland, Canada
Richard. I was watching the night - as I always do - I was watching you and the guys finally come together as a group and you at the center of all this recent great play. Then - my heart dropped and all that stuff became so insignificant. I have played hockey before and I know it isn't all about winning - it is all about playing a game which is truly the most beautiful thing to do and watch. And it is about heart - which I know from watching you play in florida and everywhere else, fuels you each and every night to play the game you love so much to devote your life to. So Richard - from a fan and friend who is so relieved this injury was only an injury I cannot wait to see you back on the ice playing the game you love. Deepest regards to you and your family( who are the most important thing and can get you through the worst times). And finally I cannot wait to see you guys in the playoffs this year and next as I plan to renew my season tix.

Good Luck and speedy recovery Richard,
Rob Piccarillo - Parkland, Florida
Richard, don't even think about rushing back this season. The playoffs are not in the cards - again - this year, so just rest up and recover your strength.

Your injury is a wake up call for everyone who plays hockey. What happened to you could happen to anyone. Neck guards should ALWAYS be worn. Maybe even skate guards.

Florence - Vasey, Canada
Get better Zednik! We will see you up and running next time you play in Sunrise! Best wishes from Russian hockey guys!

Yuriy - Jupiter, Florida

I watched last nights game on tv and had no idea what went on until you were at the bench and the referee had stopped the play.Being able to get to the bench shows how much of a warrior you are and that you will get through this.
