We all hope and pray that your recovery is fast and you will hopefully be back on the ice providing the Panthers with the skill and passion that we have seen you possess over the years. I admire you for your courage and intelligence in skating to the bench after the incident which sped up the process in letting the trainers and staff do what they needed to do to save your life. My appreciation and kudos to the Trainers and Doctors for acting so quickly in an extremely critical situation. It just goes to show how important it is for people such as these to be trained in every kind of situation in which seconds could mean the difference between life and death. I also would like to give kudos to the Buffalo Fans for showing their concern and the standing ovation they gave when it was announced that Richard was stable. It really goes to show that fans, such as these, love the game of hockey and it doesn't matter whose team is playing, their love is for both teams to come out play hard and even though they want their team to win, they still want both teams to skate off the ice with their health in tact.
Get well soon Richard!
Blair - Calgary, Alberta As a huge hockey fan and recreational player, I wish you a complete and quick recovery. The Panthers will miss you, especially with the division standings heating up the way they have recently.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery and a return to the ice soon.
Bruce Parker - Dumfries, Virginia Still a fan of the old Caps #44 Richard,
Let me start by saying that myself and my whole family were elated to hear (from the P.A. announcement at H.S.B.C. Arena) that you were in stable condition at Buffalo General Hospital and that they had stopped the bleeding.
I am sure that you are aware that we here in Buffalo are very passionate fans and everyone that I have spoken with is very happy to hear that you are going to be okay.
I played my hockey in Fort Erie Ontario Canada and have seen my share of bad injuries, but never one that brought me to tears. With in minutes all of my old hockey buddies were calling me (their old captain) and for hours we were just comforting each other and reliving some old memories to take our mind off of what had just transpired.
As a fan and a former player I am truely happy to hear that you are resting comfortably and that Buffalo General is doing their jobs. You are in good hands.
My Aunt and uncle live in El Segundo CA. ( I am pretty sure you will remember that town) They are also big hockey fans and they send along their very best wishes to you and your family.
I hope your recovery is painless and speedy, because the next time you step onto the ice in Buffalo you will receive a standing ovation.
Get well soon,

Matthew - Anaheim, California Get well soon Richard. It may be hard to believe, but there are more important things in life than hockey as you can see now. I have a hockey family with 2 boys playing all year round. My wife was always worried about my son's neck being exposed. She would make him wear a turtle neck underneath his neckguard for more protection. We enjoyed watching you play when you played in Montreal. I hope you will get well soon so you can enjoy life with your family. That is the most important thing.
Mel Morris - Kahnawake, Quebec Good luck Richard From a habs fan

My name is Jeff and I am a huge fan of the game of hockey. I was online last night when I saw the news of your injury and a replay of the incident. I cannot describe how moving it was to see you skate to the bench on your own knowing that something was seriously wrong. As a fan it is hard to see something like this happen, and I am so very happy that you are alright and are recovering. Best wishes to you and your family and I hope that you get well soon.
Also, I would like to say that my thoughts are with Olli Jokinen. I realize that this must be weighing heavily on your mind as it was your skate that came into contact with Richard. It was clearly an accident and I am so sorry that you and the Panthers organization had to witness this.

Michele - Rocky Mount, North Carolina Hi Richard. My family and I really hope you get much better and we hope you plan to get back on the ice. I was unfortunatly not at the game although I do live in the area. I was watching the game on TV during that time. It was hard to see the hit but we knew it was pretty serious. I was actually on the computer with my mom and my dad was sitting in his chair watching it. As soon as i heard that you have gotten cut in the neck, i think i was sick to my stomach. I have loved you as a player on the Panthers and i hope you feel better. When i heard you got cut, i suddenly think back to Malarchuck. I wasn't born yet but have seen it many times. In the Buffalo News today, the sports page is heart-breaking. It shows you with your hand on your neck with a very panic look on your face. But what really got me was the fans in the backround. Their faces could tell it all. There was a little boy in the picture and looked like he was screaming. It really shocked me. A couple of my friends were at that game and some of my school teachers. My friend Kelly told me this morning that she just sat there in her seat for 5 minutes and couldnt take her eyes off of the trail of your blood from the net to the bench. She didnt want to see it but it was crazy and she said she would remember it for the rest of her life. On TV we only saw the trail of blood for not even 5 seconds. And Im happy that we only saw it that long. I wouldnt of wanted to see it anymore. My other friend Tim that was at the game sat right in that corner where you were hit. He saw everything. He was scared half to death when he saw it. I just hope that you feel much better and I want to let you know that very good people in that hospital are taking care of you. Best wishes to you and your family. Get well soon! We miss you here in Buffalo!!!! =]
Stephanie - Niagara Falls, New York Dear Richard, I would like to take a moment and tell you everyone in Buffalo and the world are praying for at this difficult time. I hope that your recovery is swift so we can see you compete in the playoffs. Look forward to seeing you on the ice soon- Stay strong, good luck.I am a a true sabres fan but a Zednik fan too.

Liz - Boca Raton, Florida Good morning Richard--
I heard about your unfortunate incident only this morning and I'd like to pass my best wishes for a speedy recovery on to you.
I remember this happening to Rene Bourque a few years back. The fact that it doesn't happen more often is nothing short of a miracle.
I want to extend to you the same offer I made to Mr. Bourque. I've been making gel based protective gear for the past nine years and I was told that when you were with the Capitals you used my product--gel Lace-Bite Pads. A similar gel is used as a collar to protect necks from the very thing you had happen to you last night.
I hope whomever is reading your emails to you points this one out. These gel based collars do not hamper one's ability to move one's head or impair in any way. To see some samples of what we do, go to www.maltesehockey.com. I would have called your trainer/equipment guy, but that kind of info never gets to the player.
Good luck to you and the rest of your hockey brothers.
Philip Maltese - Sewell, New Jersey Maltese Hockey Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for you. You're in my thoughts and prayers. =)
Melinda - Murfreesboro, Tenessee Get well soon Richard
Andrea - Los Angeles, California Zed Heads in D.C wish you a speedy recovery! Glad your OK.
Michael - Washington D.C Richard, Glad to hear you've stabilized. Hope to see you on the ice soon. The positive to this is that we'll have zero tolerance for our kids lack of protective hockey gear. Hope to see you on the ice soon.
Tony - Boca Raton, Florida Richard,
My family and I send you our warmest regards and our sincerest wishes that you recover quickly and completely, and to let you know that nothing would make us feel better than to see you on the ice helping the Panthers again very soon.

I hope you are doing well - and getting even better.
Cheers, Aki - Vantaa, Finland My prayers are with you and your family.
Theresa - Casper, Wyoming Get Well Soon, Richard. Even though you are a Panther now, you were always one of my favorite Caps.
Alison - Baltimore, Maryland Hey Z, very sorry about what happened. My daughter and I are Native American and were at the Pow wow at the Hollywood Hard Rock when my mom called me to tell me that you were hurt. We had some prayers said for you and did a special dance. I really hope you have a speedy recovery-- hope to have you back on the ice!! We will continue to pray for you and your family. We have a gift for you from the pow wow (that we used in your prayer)- hopefully we will be able to get it to you sometime. Best wishes!

I care about you and I am so thankful that you survived. I read that your wife was coming up from Florida in a chartered jet last night. That's good. Other Portland fans are concerned about you so I will tell them how to e-mail you. There is a banner with your picture on it hanging in the lobby of the Memorial Colliseum. I will send you a picture of it. You know me. I pray alot. Well, I have prayed for you for many years and I will keep on for you and Jessica and Elle. God bless you, Love,

Tom - Nazareth, Pennsylvania I hope you get well, I hope you can return soon.
michael - port saint lucie , Florida As a longtime Sabres fan who has laced up the skates from time to time, I want to wish Richard all the best and pray for a speedy recovery. This is the type of accident that one rarely sees in the great game of hockey or any other sporting event. It makes everyone quickly forget which teams are in what place and who's leading the scoring races. It makes us realize that the players are human beings with family like the rest of us. Thank you for the privilidge of watching you and the other great atheletes who play for the love of the sport and for the entertainment of the fans. Get well soon and I hope to see you back on the ice.
T - Charlotte, North Carolina Richard, After seeing this horrific moment on television, I was compelled to send this. As a former women's hockey player, I was really scared to see this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during your recovery. (Just incase you wondered from my e-mail address...I am not a Pens fan anymore, just a Jagr fan) I wish you the best and hope you make a speedy recovery! Next time you see your team mate, tell him he needs to stop sharpening his blades so much! This is hockey, not ninja fighting!! Get well!!
Sincerely, Paula Bonnin - Eau Claire, Wisconsin Wow, good on you for having the presence of mind (or instinct) to cover up and get to the bench as quickly as possible. Reports now are that you are "stable", so I can just hope that all continues to go well. For something like this hockey becomes very unimportant, but I will just say that I am a life long Habs fan and can say that you are a true gentleman of the game...best of luck to you and yours!!!
Jeff - Ottawa, Ontario Just wanted to say get well soon Richard. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. The people over at Buffalo General are fine people and will take good care of you.
John - Tonawanda, New York As a fan my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Dean - Calgary, Alberta Hey, I saw the horrible accident and I feel sorry. I hope you get well soon.
Georg R - Tallinn, Estonia As a fan of another team, I usually do not bother to pay attention to what else is happening around the league. When I saw what had happened, though, I quickly became aware that sometimes the game just doesn't matter. We often complain that this player isn't tough enough, or that player should go into the corner more but last night's accident shows how dangerous a game hockey is and how, in an instant, things can change. The thoughts and prayers from myself and my family go out to Mr. Zednik and we hope for his quick recovery. Get back soon.
steve - Thorold, Canada Richard,
You are a brave person to have been able to get up and go to the bench so quickly!!!! We hope that you are resting well, and we hope that we can see you back on the ice!!!

Again, Take care and much health to you and your family, Pattie Meade - Pinellas Park, Florida Brave guy! Get well soon.
Siva - Toronto, Ontario Richard,
I just wanted to wish you well, I was at the game and while it was scary for my kids [4 & 7] it gave me a chance to explain what true courage and calm under pressure. I still can't believe how you skated all the way to your bench. Both I and my kids want to wish you well and hope that you will be playing hockey again as soon as possible.
Best wishes, Mark Natemeier - Buffalo, NY Dear Zeddy- Saw what happened last night in horror. It could have been so much worse. I'm so proud of you that you had the clarity of thought to skate to the bench. You've always been a stand-up player and a great roll model for kids. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank God that the right doctors were on hand, where they needed to be to keep this from being a worse tragedy than it already is. By the way, I don't know if you've been told or not, but the fans at the rink last night were so respectful. Not a single person left the building. And when the message came over that you were okay, there was a standing ovation in your honor. Take care of yourself, get well soon, and thanks for being such a great player and example. Best wishes and God bless. Gary - Dallas, Texas Richard and family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you from the Buffalo hockey community.
Stay strong! James - Buffalo, New York Get well soon, you are in our thoughts and prayers!

Loved you in Montreal and continue to follow your career with interest and best wishes. God bless. Habs fans, Ray, Cindy, and Mark Paradis - Montreal, Quebec Dear Richard,
I didn't see what happened to you live yesterday, but word travelled very quickly. I play men's league hockey in Raleigh on Sunday nights, and some of my teammates are from Buffalo, so I heard about your accident in the locker room before I went out to play. Everyone in our locker room was happy to hear that you received swift medical attention and that your condition stabilized quickly after you were cut by Olli's skate.
Anyway, on behalf of the Fox and Hound B league RAHL team, we wish you a complete and speedy recovery. We hope to see you playing again soon!

Ryan - Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey best wishes to you and to your family from Montreal
chris - Montreal, Quebec I grew up in Buffalo and have been a fan and a player my whole life of hockey. I was watching the game and saw what happened, I'm not religous but I prayed and am so happy to see that your doing well. Buffalo was silent for you and gave the news that you were stable and going to the hospital a standing ovation. Your accident shows the good in people that even though you were on the opposing team, everyone wished you well. As a 17 year-old goalie just coming home from a game to watch that, I could really connect and feel the pain and sorrow. I wish you the best of luck, a speedy and healthy recovery and hope to see you playing again soon.
Sincerely, Alex - Jacksonville, Florida As a fan I appreciate the hard work and inherent risk that goes into the game. I hope you get better soon and that your family can feel some sense of comfort in this time. Thank you and feel better.
Laura - Anaheim, California Dear Richard, I am very relieved to hear that you are on your way to recovery after such a terrifying event. As a Montreal Canadiens fan, i am familiar with your agressive offensive play and toughness. I thought the forearm delivered by Kyle McLaren a few years ago in the playoffs was bad, but this is even worse. The important thing is that you are safe and that your family and friends are there to support you. I hope you that you are feeling better and know that there are many many fans pulling for you. All the best in the future, both professionally and with your family.
Jordan Simpson - Kingston, Canada Dear Richard and family,
Our family is lifting you up in prayers. God will heal you. His angels were watching over you last night. We pray for your quick recovery and blanket you and your family in prayer at this difficult time. Richard, you and the the team are OUR team and we love all of you. We also send prayers for your teamate Olli. May he feel the peace of God for this unforseen event.
Your fans, John, Grace, Brandon, Jade, Hunter, Savannah and Reed Galarneau - Clewiston, Florida Hi, I've been a fan of yours since you played in Montreal and just wanted to let you know that my friends and I hope you're ok and that you'll be back on the ice soon. Things like this shouldn't happen in hockey, but hopefully your accident happened for a reason and measures will be put in place to prevent it from happening to someone else. I respect the way you handled yourself and hope you keep your spirits up while recovering.
Best wishes from Calgary, Canada!
-Patrick Cloutier - Calgary, Alberta Richard, all our prayers and best wishes for your recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Gina - Summerville, SC, South Carolina Dear Mr. Zednick & Family, We were watching the game (as usual) when suddenly the world went crazy. We couldn't beleive what we were seeing. My 16 year old daughter was crying... You were so very brave. Much love is coming from our household to yours. We wish you, you wife and daughter strength, peace, and full recovery.
The Larsen Family Eric, Patricia & Erika - boca raton, Florida First off, that was absolutely brilliant thinking to skate directly to the bench while you still could, you probably saved your own life. If I'm ever involved in such an emergency situation, I hope I have the presence of mind to act as quickly and intelligently as you.
Anyway, I just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery both physically AND mentally. I sincerely hope you make it back to the ice and don't let this incident mess with your head (though that is easily understandable). Look at it this way, the odds of that happening were probably a million to one, now what do you think the odds are of that happening again to the same person?! That's right, it's damn near impossible! Anyway, get better and I look forward to seeing you out on the ice again soon.
Best wishes to you and the family from the Valley of the Sun. Jeremy - Phoenix, Arizona Hope all is well. Many prayers are with you. Hope your famile is ok. We hope to see you on the ice as soon as possible.
Alex - Atlanta, Georgia You were always a favorite of me and my family (wife and three kids) during your days with the Caps. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope to be able to cheer you on at Verizon Center on April 5.
Arthur - Arlington, Virgina Get well soon Richard. I have the utmost repect for you and all NHL players....you are truly a rare breed. I hope to see you flying down the wing soon.
Tom - Springfield, New Jersey Although I'm a Flyers fan, I'm a hockey fan first and foremost. And, as a hockey fan, I have great respect for the warriors in the league and for the sacrifices they make for their teams, each other, and the fans.
Therefore, I am praying for Richard's speedy recovery and want to thank him for playing the game how it should be played. Its frightening to see a player get injured like this, but thankfully injuries like this are rare.
Get well soon and get back on the ice!

Because of your heroic actions I feel that in the future hockey players of all ages with similar injures will act the same way you did to help the outcome of their situation.

Since coming to the Panthers, you have become my favorite player. I was horrified and devastated to see you injured last night on live television! Please know that I immediately began to pray for you and your family. I have remembered you often over the course of this day and will continue to lift you in prayer until you recover fully. Being a born-again Christian, I truly believe that prayer makes a difference! I thank the Lord that your life was spared. I thank Him for the skills of the doctors that helped get you through this situation. I pray for your wife and daughter that they might sense the Lord's peace during this time of fear and worry. I pray for a speedy recovery so that you can once again be a major contributor on the ice for the Panthers. And most of all, I pray that in some way, shape, or form, God would use this incident to draw you closer to Him. I pray that this event will cause you to seek Jesus, to make him your personal Savior (if you haven't already done so); I pray that this event will make a world of difference in your spiritual walk with God. May the Lord heal you quickly, and may your life be a true testimony to His love, grace, mercy, and comfort. I can't wait to see you skate again, Richard! Many blessings on you, your family, and all your teammates!
Sincerely, Jeff Heck - Miami, Florida Best wishes Richard. The entire Hockey community wishes you a speedy and full recovery!

Martin - Loughborough, United Kingdom Glad your alright, get well soon!! Stay tough
Geoff - Montreal, Quebec Richard,
First of all, I'm so very glad that you are doing fine and I wish you & your family all the wishes in the world.
As a referee in minor hockey I am constantly concerned about the safety of all the players. The questions that go through your mind are; what would I do? How would I react?
I must say your reaction and smart thinking not only saved your life but has given everyone in the game (pros & minor hockey) that much more information and knowledge on what to do if that ever happened to them.
I happened to be at the game in Toronto when you recorded a hat trick. Quick recovery on getting back. Just one thing, no more hat tricks against my beloved Leafs.
Cheers. Steve - Tottenham, Canada aLL i COULD REMEMBER WAS cLINT mALARCHUK. I hope aND PRAY YOUR recovery matches his. our hearts and prayers are with you.
Bryan - Westboro, Massachusetts Hey Richie! I was shocked when i saw you get hurt. I really hope you get better. As a fan of the Flyers i don't care much for the Panthers but all players are the same and without players like you there would be no NHL or the Flyers. You and your family will be in my prayers. As i said earlier get well and get back on the ice hastily.
Matthew - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Get well soon. I may be a die hard Hurricanes fan, but you and your family are in my thoughts and you have my best wishes.
Derek - Raleigh, North Carolina I wish Richard well, I hope for a full speedy recovery. I hope that the ocncern and emotion currently being felt by fans and league officials produces a requirement for neck guards for all players. Thankfully we are sending these wishes and not condolences for the loss of a loved one. Let's hope that this unfortunate incident has a positive result for all players so that the fear and injury felt by Richard will not be lost in the fact that Panthers staff, doctors and the treating physicians saved a life that most likely would have been lost had this injury occurred any place other than at a professional sports venue. I look forward to seeing Richard's return to the ice.
Doug - Trenton, Ontario Best of luck for a speedy recovery, both physically and mentally.
M - Kingston, Canada Hey man!! Get well soon! We need you back playing healthy and well. Hang in there. We all have our fingers crossed for you!
