Head Coach Jacques Martin

On overcoming obstacles in tonight's performance...

Yes I think we showed a lot of character tonight. It was difficult in the first period, but we did such a good job killing the penalties, even in the 5 on 3. We got a penalty with about 10 seconds left in the period and then they score. It's tough. You can't generate much. We were lucky in one way to stay in the game. Eddie made some big saves for us. I thought we got some real great effort. During the second period we were alright. I still don't think that we generated enough. We were playing at there level. So I thought in the third period we came out and I thought we had shorter shifts. We went after them in the third. It started with Gratt's goal and at the end of the power play with the nice play by Sprukts. That gave us a little bit of light. Then Nathan Horton's goal tied it. Then Rostislav had a great goal, a great effort on his part.

On the goal by Olesz...

I think when you look back, he has goals in the last three games for us. He's a young player that we feel has a lot of talent. We like him. Its just a matter of getting a little more every game, getting some confidence, and getting some production. He's a good sound player defensively. He does a good job penalty killing. I think its important to get some production as well.

On the confidence the team had tonight coming off two straight wins...

I think for sure. I think one of the keys was that goaltending was huge. We got some big saves from Eddie and you need that. I think when you do get those, it's a lift. I think its just a matter of staying with the game plan and keep battling. Its nice to get some production from different people. I think the first power play goal by Gratts at the end of the power play. Then the goal from Olli's line and then four-on-four with Olesz.

On if the three wins is the start of something...

I think we started a turnaround in December. The game I look back at is probably Ottawa. I think when we came back from that game, I thought we had a pretty good performance on that Saturday night. We lost 3-1 that night and they had an empty net. I think from then on, we went to Pittsburgh and got a couple of wins. A lot of the losses we suffered in December could have very easily been victories. The game against Buffalo, the game against Anaheim for instance, we outplayed them. The Islanders and Rangers games, even in their building we had outplayed them. I think our play has really picked up. Its just a matter of getting the results now.

On Eddie getting longer as the game went on...

Yes, I think that's really one of his trademarks. I think when you are remember Eddie, he's a guy that has a lot of character and a lot of battle in him. He's a fighter. I saw Eddie's performance first hand the years he played in Toronto and I played in Ottawa. He was probably a big part of my exit in Ottawa. So, he's that kind of person and that kind of goaltender.

On the back to back penalties in the first...

I don't think that would be a good...Well we will look at the tape and evaluate those penalties. Hopefully there is some feedback. I think if we are at fault I hammer it to our guys. I think that sometimes we are not always at fault.
