In the Pipeline: Powering the Pioneers

by Mike Lewis /

Florida Panthers prospects Henrik Borgstrom and Evan Cowley had a memorable weekend for the University of Denver.

The Pioneers not only swept the University of Nebraska-Omaha with wins last Friday and Saturday, but also secured their first Penrose Cup, as the regular season NCHC Conference Champions. They begin their quarterfinal playoff series this weekend on March 10 against Colorado College.

DU enters the playoffs on a 11-game winning streak.

Described by NBCSN hockey analyst Pierre McGuire as "a combination of Jaromir Jagr and Petr Nedved", the Panthers 2016 first round pick was named the NCHC Rookie of the Week for his four points in two games and was named to the 2016-17 NCHC All-Rookie Team.

The native of Helsinki, Finland, has produced points in five straight games (6-3-9) and goals in four consecutive games (6G).
