In the Pipeline: All-Star Crew

Portland sweeps St. John’s in the season series, three Pirates shipped off to the All-Star Classic in Syracuse, Karch Bachman notched a hat trick and more in this week’s prospect report.

SWEEPING ST. JOHN’S

Portland completed the four-game season sweep of the IceCaps with a 4-2 win on Jan. 29. Rocco Grimaldi scored twice in the win to earn first star of the game honors. Cameron Gaunce and Rob Schremp tallied as well for the Pirates, with Schremp’s goal counting as the game-winner. Wayne Simpson and MacKenzie Weegar each recorded two assists in the contest as Mike McKenna made 27 saves.

ALL-STAR CREW

The Pirates were well represented at the AHL All-Star Classic in Syracuse as Rob Schremp, Cameron Gaunce and Mike McKenna suited up for the Atlantic Division All-Stars. Schremp recorded two goals and two assists in his hometown, while Gaunce notched two assists and a +4 rating, while McKenna stopped 11 of 15 shots.

In the previous night’s skills competition,  McKenna stopped four of six shots in the breakway relay competition and two of three in the pass & score event. McKenna even stopped for a photo with rival Screech the Falcon.

CATS IN THE USHL

Panthers 2015 fifth rounder Karch Bachman lit the lamp three times in the Chicago Steel’s 5-2 win over the Madison Capitols last Friday. Bachman has recorded 15 points (11-4-15) in 24 games with the Steel this season.

That same night, Cats goalie prospect Ryan Bednard of the Youngstown Phantoms stopped 26 of 27 shots to help lead his squad to a 2-1 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
