ALL HANDS ON DECK

The Pirates officially kicked off their first round 2016 Calder Cup Playoff series with the Hershey Bears last Friday (April 22). Splitting games one and two at Cross Insurance Arena with the Bears, the Pirates will set sail to Hershey for the remainder of the series. Michael Matheson, Greg McKegg and Logan Shaw return to the Pirates lineup with some Stanley Cup playoff experience and just in time for game three tonight at 7:00 p.m.

GAME ONE (6-4 W)

In game one, Kyle Rau’s first professional playoff goal opened the scoring for the series, while Rob Schremp and Shane Harper both tallied twice in the contest. Brett Olson found the back of the net as well, scoring Portland’s third goal. Rocco Grimaldi earned three assists in the game, while Corban Knight, Brent Regner and Matt MacKenzie notched two assists each. Mike McKenna made 28 saves in the game to earn his first win of the postseason.

GAME TWO (3-1 L)

Sena Acolatse scored Portland’s lone goal in game two, with Connor Brickley and Chase Balisy earning the assists. McKenna made 18 saves.

JUNIORS

Jayce Hawryluk and the Brandon Wheat Kings currently lead the Red Deer Rebels 3-1 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Hawryluk recorded three assists in game two (6-4 W) and two assists in game four (4-2 W). The Roblin, Manitoba native currently ranks second in the Western Hockey League for playoff assists (15). The Wheat Kings face the Rebels in game five on Friday (April 29). The winner of the series will face the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL finals.
