20 teams, one goal. All shooting for a High School National Championship.
That's what is happening at the Saveology.com Iceplex as 20 of the best high school hockey teams from around the country are competing for a single national championship. Starting at 9am this morning, the tournament will conclude with a winner taking home the trophy on Sunday (Championship game starts at 10am).
The field is pretty diverse with teams from 14 different states. Two teams should have a little bit of an advantage as they reside in the state of Florida. Cypress Bay High School from Weston and East Lake High School from Palm Habor are battling for that single title with teams from California, Ohio, Texas, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, Indiana, Tennessee, Arizona, South Carolina, New York and Iowa.
What makes this tournament even more special for the Florida Panthers official practice facility is that it is just the second time that a National Championship has been held in the state of Florida. The only other time came in 2002 and it was also held at the Saveology.com Iceplex (then Incredible ICE) as the facility hosted the Under-14 National Championships.
The Round Robin format takes place from Wednesday until Friday, the 22nd (9am-8pm). The quarterfinals and semifinals will be held all day Saturday with the Championship Game on Sunday. It's just $25 for a tournament pass and $10 if you would like to attend a single day.
