Holy Colby! Rookie Nets First Two Pro Goals In Win

Rookie defenseman Colby Robak scored his first two professional goals to guide the Rochester Americans to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over the Adirondack Phantoms tonight. The win at the Glens Falls Civic Center moved the Amerks into sole possession of first place in the North Division with Abbotsford to play later this evening.


Rochester (6-4-1-0) now has 13 points and secured seven points on its season-long, cross-continental four-game road trip. The loss was the seventh straight for the Phantoms.

Amerks’ center Bill Thomas opened and closed the scoring with a marker just 38 seconds into the contest and added an empty-netter with 33 seconds to play. Thomas finished the game with two goals and one assist to give him five points (2+3) in his last two games. Jacob Markstrom turned away 31 shots to record his fourth victory of the season.

Adirondack got three-point performances from Andrew Rowe (2+1) and Jonathon Kalinski (1+2). Stefan Legein also added two assists. Johan Backlund made 21 saves in the home loss. Both teams had success on the power as Rochester was 2-for-6 and Adirondack was 3-for-9.

Thomas scored just his second goal of the season 38 seconds into the contest as he beat Backlund to the left-pad side for a 1-0 lead. After a power-play goal by Rowe tied the game, Kenndal McArdle scored his fourth goal in six games to give Rochester a 2-1 lead. The Amerks’ power-play goal was assisted on by Joe Callahan and Mike Kostka at 4:58. The Phantoms evened the game on the power play at 10:29 as Rowe scored his second of the game. Legein and Kalinski earned their second assists of the contest.

In the second period, Kalinski and Rowe hooked up for the third time at 8:49. This time it was Kalinski who scored on the power play from Rowe and Marc-Andre Bourdon for a 3-2 Phantoms’ lead. Before the end of the second frame, Robak scored his first professional with a blast underneath the crossbar to even the game at three apiece. Fellow rookie Eric Selleck assisted on the goal at 18:12.
Robak then netted the second of his career, and second of the night, at 7:58 of the third period. Clay Wilson and Thomas assisted on the power-play tally. Thomas added an empty-netter with in the final seconds to give the Amerks their third straight win.

The Amerks return home on Friday, November 5th for a 7:35 p.m. game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The first 5,000 fans will receive an Amerks T-shirt.
