2010 Calder Cup Playoffs: First Round
Series Tied At Three
And there will be a game seven.
That's because, the Abbotsford Heat refused to go quietly into the off-season and earned their second straight victory Sunday to tie the series at three after being down 3-1. Winning 3-1 on Friday, Abbotsford scored the game's first three goals Sunday on their way to a 5-1 victory.
The Heat actually scored three quick goals midway through the first period in chasing starting netminder Tyler Plante.
Jason Jaffray got the visitors on the board at the 9:09 mark as the winger beat Plante after pouncing on a rebound. Jon Rheault gave them a 2-0 lead 41 seconds later when he skated past Keaton Ellerby
and wristed it past Plante. He then beat Plante with 8:42 left in the first, or 2:09 after the first Heat goal.
Down 3-0 midway through the second, Rochester attempted a comeback. They got on the scoreboard with a powerplay goal at the 8:25 mark as Jamie Johnson slammed home a rebound. Mike York and Jason Garrison
picked up the assists.
But it was not to be.
David Van der Gulik scored for the second time in two games on a Heat power play right off a face-off with 2:09 left in the second. Then Rheault finished off his hat trick 7:26 into the third for his fifth of the series.
The Amerks and Heat will play Game 7 on Tuesday at Blue Cross Arena.NOTES:
It was only the second time this series that Shawn Matthias
was held without a point (Game 1)...Rochester's power play has been a huge reason they are going to a Game 7. The power play unit is first in the playoffs, scoring on 33.3% of their opportunities. That comes after a 1-4 effort Sunday night...Abbotsford has scored first in five of the six games this series.
